Weds Blogcast: Massie out; IRS corruption; Kars4Kids woes; My wife's garden

Primary Results:

A big primary day in a few states and no House primary in the country has had as much attention as KY-4 where Thomas Massie lost his primary by about 10 points and will exist Congress in January after serving 14 years. Massie, who had been one of the House's most consistent libertarians turned into something else -- what, it's hard to say -- but for sure a thorn in Donald Trump's side. Massie also aggressively opposed US aid to Israel which, while I am not looking to debate the policy, brought in a lot of money against him including from arguably the single most important Republican donor alive today, Miriam Adelson. The winner, Ed Gallrein, is a former Navy SEAL endorsed by President Trump. Secretary of War, in a wildly inappropriate move, went to Kentucky to campaign for Gallrein a few days ago. Just a few weeks ago, betting odds had Massie as a big favorite, i.e over 75% to win. By Tuesday morning, Massie was a 60-40 underdog to Gallrein. I won't miss Massie. I hope that Gallrein isn't just a Trump lapdog though the upside is that if he's actually good on policy, he'll be free to be an actual conservative instead of a right-leaning populist licking Trump's boots after Trump leaves office two years from Gallrein's swearing in.

Here's a fun little text from Team Massie that went out yesterday:

PA-3 is the most partisan district (and it is pro-Dem in this case) in the nation at D+40. This news makes me sick. I note that while the district is heavily African-American, the socialist's main supporters are white liberals:

Georgia's Republican Senate and Governor races will be going to runoffs as well the Republican Senate race in Alabama. The eventual governor candidate in GA will face off against Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta who isn't particularly popular (having presided over a major increase in crime although she really wasn't one of those "soft on crime" Dems. She also tried to keep Atlanta and Georga closed for longer, including churches and businesses, toward the end of the COVID pandemic). But she has the advantage of being a black woman.

New report: On-time arrivals in 2025 hit worst level since 2014

Our key findings:

  • Among flights on the 10 largest U.S. airlines and their marketing partners that weren’t canceled or diverted in 2025: One in nine flights arrived 45 minutes or more late, and one in 12 flights arrived 60 minutes or more late.
  • The number of domestic tarmac delays of three hours or more soared by 63% compared with 2024.
  • Passenger volume actually decreased in 2025. That’s happened only three other times in the last quarter-century: in 2001 after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks; during the 2008-09 financial meltdown; and in COVID-ravaged 2020.

An earthquake in Texas politics:

Holy cow: Trump Endorses Paxton over Cornyn in Texas U.S. Senate Race | National Review

I suppose you can tell why Trump did it based on who’s quoted in this article as being upset about it: Donald Trump's endorsement of Ken Paxton over Sen. John Cornyn in Texas angers Senate Republicans

Texas Republican Senate nominee? Odds & Predictions 2026

Unsurprisingly, Paxton's odds of winning the primary jumped from around 62% to 94%. Interestingly, the odds of Republicans winning the general election barely moved, maybe down 0.5%. It's roughly 52-48 (Republican over Democrat) in the betting odds right now.

Many people will be happy if they never hear the ads again:

I think the judge may be right, though it’s absolutely clear if one looks at the website that this is a Jewish organization. (Which I didn’t know until two days ago, which may be part of the point here.) Unfortunately, with the massive rise of antisemitism in the US (on the left and the right), this is going to cause a bunch of ignorant memes.
