Just One Thing: Chris Wright has an oopsie

Energy Secretary Chris Wright (for full disclosure...he's a friend) posted and then deleted a tweet yesterday that cause significant gyrations in the oil market, first down (when posted) and then up (when deleted).

And then this: US attacks Iran’s mine-laying boats in strait of Hormuz as tensions rise over oil | Strait of Hormuz | The Guardian The US responded (see third tweet below)

One More Thing: The climate grift

I know this is a bit "out of left field" given what's going on the world but this came out of an ongoing conversation with a friend and I thought you might find it interesting.

Is the market mispricing current oil and geopolitical risks?

This is a fascinating and rather technical article in which the author says that a lot of folks are much too optimistic about world oil production and deliveries getting back to normal quickly. Today's Guests

Brad Taylor is a multi-time best-selling author of the Pike Logan series of novels. His next, coming out in a couple of months is “Shadow Strike”. But we’re here for something else today because Brad is also a retired Army special operations, Delta to be precise, lieutenant colonel. He has led operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places he can’t talk about. Brad has a Master’s of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School, with a concentration in Irregular Warfare.

We'll talk about his views on the Iran war.

So I'm not really sure just what's going on here since Jeana booked these folks in advance of Saturday's St Patrick's Day Parade in Denver. She says it's "Bagpipers, Queen and the St. Patrick's Day committee."

Queen Colleen/Irish Princess Competition

I've never been very close to someone playing the bagpipes. Very interested to see how it works. I bet it'll be very loud. It's a unique sound.

The main thing I want to know is a question asked by a listener yesterday: Can the bagpipers play any Rush?

Other Stuff:

I'm confident that the military has plans for various contingencies but I don't know how one plans for a president who never seems to adhere to a plan and only sometimes to a message: The Trump Team’s Evolving Messages on Iran - WSJ

Voter fraud happens, but there's no evidence that it happens at the scale that MAGA believes. I do think we should deal with "ballot harvesting" and outdated voter rolls which offer some of the bigger opportunities for fraud. I don't think we need to get rid of mail-in voting. I don't mind many of the provisions of the SAVE Act though I think it's mostly a solution in search of a problem. Voter fraud is a problem the same way climate change is a problem, i.e. there may be a tiny kernel of truth but mostly it's an imaginary problem used for partisan politics and fund-raising. I note that this person, just sentenced to 3 years for voter fraud (only 2 fraudulent votes, but I'm happy to make an example of anyone who undermines our elections, including Tina Peters), almost certainly cast the fraudulent ballots for Trump.

I despise the Jones Act. One of the few issues on which Admiral Stavridis and I disagree. Trump should not only waive it for now, but support its repeal. It's the worst kind of protectionism: Massively raises prices for Americans without even creating or protecting an American industry. Disaster for everyone.

Trump may waive the Jones Act for oil shipments. Repeal it instead.
