This year's stock market contest
For something like the 8th year in a row, I'm doing a stock market contest in which the winner gets lunch with me (and, if Jeana is available, she might join too), with lunch paid for by me!
The S&P 500 closed yesterday (Monday 1/26) at 6950.23
How to enter the contest:
Email me at ross(at)iheartmedia.com The subject should say "Stock market contest" or just "contest". If your email subject does not include the word "contest" there's a good chance I will miss it and you won't be included.
In the email, include three things:
- Your name
- Your phone number (only to be used as a backup if you win and I can't reach you by email)
- Your guess as to the closing price of the S&P 500 on Thursday, December 17th. (I pick a Thursday so I can announce the winner on a Friday, and I pick that particular Thursday in case I end up taking the rest of December off, over the Christmas/New Year time frame.)

Just One Thing: Bovino demoted, but Noem has to go
I'll be spending a fair amount of today's show talking about different angles on this topic.
We learned yesterday afternoon that Greg Bovino, the guy with the made-up title of "commander-at-large" of the Border Patrol is being demoted and sent back to his district in Southern California. That's fine...he's hasn't been good for the Trump administration's PR. But Kristi Noem is the cabinet secretary over all that stuff and she's been worse. She needs to go. I wonder if she thinks that throwing Bovino under the bus will save her. I hope not.

Meanwhile, "Border Czar" Tom Homan is going to Minneapolis as Bovino and some of his agents leave. Homan can be very aggressive but he's legit and he knows the law and, more importantly, he seems to oppose this wide dragnet that has roiled Minneapolis that was brought to use by the evil Stephen Miller and his henchwoman Kristi Noem.
In short, this is a massive reset for Trump immigration enforcement even if it's one that is being implemented in a way where Trump doesn't have to admit that anything was done wrong.

Wes Allison is CEO of the National Western Stock Show. We'll talk about some of the aspects of the livestock auction that Jeana and I covered yesterday (and I made a dumb
mistake, talking about breeding a steer when steers are castrated; you breed with bulls, not steers.) I apologize for the error.

Phil Weiser is attorney general of Colorado. He won't love my saying this but I'm going to: As part of his ongoing effort to win the Democratic nomination for governor, he has created a website for Coloradans to report what they perceive as illegal actions by ICE agents. I don't like anything that seems likely to cause activity in Colorado that looks like what's going on in Minneapolis.
Misconduct by ICE can now be reported to the Colorado attorney general
Also, Phil knows that I think this is his weakest case against the Trump administration: El Paso County, Colorado Springs officials oppose state lawsuit challenging Space Command move, file amicus brief

These little guys are so cute but if I had to hear this sound all day, every day, I think I'd go insane. By the way, where are they being taken? They're a little small to make a delicious Jamaican goat stew out of...(sorry, Jeana)
