Mon Blogcast: An incredible Broncos win on a sad and deadly weekend

Just One Thing: A Deadly Weekend

Please read and subscribe to my Substack. In today's note I talk about the (at least) three mass killings this weekend, in three different countries (US, Australia, and Syria), and expound a bit on implications for immigration: A deadly weekend (updated with current info)

The weekend could have been even more deadly: Five arrested over plot to attack German Christmas market

I suspect that these very difficult conversations will take up much of the show. I don't enjoy that sort of show very much, especially on a Monday, AND I also think it would be dishonest not to make this the main topic when we're not talking with the guests mentioned below.

And then this news...

Rob Reiner, Wife Michele Found Dead in Their L.A. Home with Knife Wounds

You (hopefully) won't see conservatives (or libertarians like me) celebrating Rob Reiner's death the way liberals did with Charlie Kirk. See the second video below.

Reiner was a film genius who kept millions entertained for decades. Whatever I thought of his politics were irrelevant to how much I enjoyed his movies, especially This is Spinal Tap.

And on TV, he was part of a scene -- improvised, believe it or not -- that has become a frequent part of my show:

And yet

As you see in "Today's Guests" below and hear on the show, it was a great weekend for the Denver Broncos, winning their 11th game in a row, beating one of the best teams they've played all year (indeed, Green Bay was favored to win the game), and guaranteeing themselves a spot in the playoffs. Coach Sean Payton, in the after-game press conference, said that the three goals for the team are 1) winning the division, 2) getting the highest seed possible (helped by the Patriots loss to Buffalo yesterday), and 3) winning a World Championship, aka Super Bowl. So he was slightly pleased by making the playoffs but not enough to consider it even an important achieved goal. Payton made a couple of VERY gutsy calls on fourth down yesterday, one of which was absolutely critical in the game.

Today's Guests

Our Broncos broadcast team (Rick Lewis, Dave Logan, and Susie Wargin) will join us throughout the show talking about the Broncos' comeback win over the Green Bay Packers. As Dave noted during the game, the Broncos had two players with their first interceptions of the season (Pat Surtain and Riley Moss) and two players with their first touchdown receptions of the year (Michael Bandy and Lil'Jordan Humphrey). Bo Nix had 302 yards passing, 4 TD passes (to 4 different players), and no interceptions. A really complete game. The running game remains a concern for the Broncos; everything else seemed very solid.

Former State Senate Majority Leader and (acting) State Treasurer Mark Hillman joins the show to talk about some things that could be done to help reduce Colorado's insanely high homeowners and auto insurance premiums: Reforms to tackle Colorado's runaway insurance costs - Complete Colorado

Two people were killed and about 9 injured in an attack at Brown University on Saturday. A man who was named as a "person of interest" was detained and then released. If he is the guy then whoever released him will have to answer very hard questions. If he isn't the guy then I feel quite bad for him having been outed in the news as a person of interest; it will take him a long long time to recover from such an implicit accusation. At the moment, I simply don't know which of those is the actual situation. Brown University shooting live updates: Person of interest to be released from custody

I hope this library never gets built. He was the worst president of my lifetime (so far, at least), and that includes Jimmy Carter. Joe Biden has raised little of what he needs to build presidential library, new report finds

Today's Videos

My videos are usually light and entertaining. This first one most certainly is not. It's a video of two evildoers and an incredible hero who we now know is Ahmed al Ahmed (whom I presume, but do not know, to be Muslim), saving many lives.

And on this challenging day, I thought it would be nice to end with a smile appropriate for the season:
