And the Nobel Prize for Peace goes to...

Nobel Peace Prize 2025 - Press release - NobelPrize.org

I do think Trump has a good chance and good claim to win next year's prize. (Remember that the nomination deadline is January 31 so it was never even slightly likely that he'd be in the running for this year's prize.)

I didn't know this woman's story but she seems a worthy recipient and a useful reminder of what a nation can become. On certain days, it seems like we're drifting that way in this country...which could argue against Trump winning the prize next year even if he deserves it for his efforts to end wars.

Just One Thing: A fire that could have been much much worse

My family (including me, obviously) used to live just outside Nederland. We were at the Caribou Village Shopping Center very often, including the B&F supermarket and the Carousel of Happiness. The large building that contained almost all the stores other than the supermarket and the carousel burned to the ground yesterday. The cause is still being investigated.

A family friend lives very nearby. She woke up a bit after 3 AM yesterday a bit confused because it seemed like the run was rising. She went outside and realized the light was coming from the entire building being on fire. (She sent me these pictures.) She got her dogs and left her house; she returned later in the morning when evacuation orders were lifted.

The building that burned...and almost all the buildings near it...are old wooden structures. And there's forest all around and it's been quite dry up there lately. It's an absolute miracle that this did not turn into a major forest fire that spread to many homes. I mean, it's a miracle that the carousel and supermarket didn't even catch fire. Don't even know how it's possible but I suppose one thing is that it must not have been very windy. Having seen the devastation from the fires in the Boulder County foothills about a decade ago when we lived up there and watched the fire on Sugarloaf Mountain (where we had lived previously) destroy home after home, it's all too easy to imagine what might have happened around Nederland, where the density of homes is, in some places including right across the street, much higher.

Jack Carr is a former Navy SEAL sniper (enlisted and officer) and best-selling author in both fiction and non-fiction. His latest, "Cry Havoc", is sort of a pre-prequel of the "Terminal List" series, focusing on Tom Reece, the father of the Terminal List's protagonist, James Reece, during the elder Reece's military service in the Vietnam War.

This is a GREAT thriller. I'd put it near or at the top of Jack's books and I thoroughly recommend it!
