Just One Thing: Cancel culture comes for the left

My thoughts about the firing of an egregious racist who was at the Washington Post. Please read and subscribe to my Substack. It's free, and worth at least a little more than that!

A snippet:

Today we get the welcome news that a somewhat prominent person — at least if you are consume elitist opinions on the editorial pages of the Washington Post — has been fired. The Washington Post’s former columnist, Karen Attiah, long the most race-bating person at a major print media outlet — something like the Joy Reid of print in her willingness to make disgusting and outrageously racist statements (against white people) — has been let go.

The headline is jarring. For me the question is whether law enforcement agencies have REAL hurdles to being able to access the data, whether, as they claim, only a small number of people are even allowed to ask for permission to see the data, etc. I have to say I'm not the most trusting person when it comes to government so this does concern me.

I'm really not sure what to say about this. I mean, is it great that they identified that there might be a potential threat, even if they didn't then stop him? Or is it bad that they didn't get far enough to identify the actual name of the threat? FBI investigated Evergreen High School shooter's social media

I see the pros and cons but overall I'm in favor of this change: Trump renews calls for ending quarterly reports for companies | Reuters

Also, just because a company might not be required to report quarterly doesn't mean they won't. If they think that degree of transparency benefits their stock price, then many will.

Dan made this video some years ago about corruption but it's the same dynamic that I describe as a cause of fear, anger, and hatred among voters: Government is too big and does too much, so citizens of some persuasion are (rightfully) afraid that politicians of the opposite persuasion will use the power of government to (negatively) impact their lives.
