Just One Thing: What happened in Boulder
Please read and subscribe to my Substack. Here's today's note. I'd be grateful if you'd take a couple of minutes to consider it:

One More Thing: The Stanley Cup Finals have begun
It feels almost inappropriate to jump to this topic right after mention of the attack in Boulder, but here goes...
I'm rooting for Edmonton. Generally, I'm rooting for Canada. Doesn't mean I'm rooting against America but I have no particular reason to support a team from Florida and I think Canada has been terribly abused by our president so I'd like them to win.
A thrilling win for Edmonton in overtime last night after going down 3-1 to the Florida Panthers

Today's Guests
Sean Tipton is Chief Advocacy and Policy Officer for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. We'll discuss a new(ish) movement called "Ethical IVF" which is an intentionally nice-sounding misnomer of a move that aims to make IVF much more difficult and expensive.

.
Will Toor is Director of the Colorado Energy Office. We'll discuss the implications for Colorado of Congress overturning California's vehicle emissions waiver (as Colorado was following at least some of California's policies.) We'll also talk about the (ridiculously expensive and likely impossible) goal of nearly eliminating "greenhouse gas" production by electric power utilities within the next 5 (or even 15) years.

I heard a podcast by someone I won't name but whose podcast is in the top 100 in the nation, I believe, and she expressed disappointment in Bongino's statement and insists that she believes there's "more out there". I find it very frustrating when people violate Occam's Razor and I wonder if folks like that podcaster really believe what they're saying or are pandering to a gullible and conspiracy-minded listenership. That said, it's easier than every to believe in political conspiracies given what we now know -- and many of us long believed -- about Joe Biden's incapacity and its coverup.

This is at least borderline illegal but plays into a much more interesting larger story about our trade negotiations with China. Trump massively overestimated the dominance of the US negotiating position.
As I've noted before and surely oversimplifying: America buys a LOT more from China than they buy from us BUT we buy a lot of stuff from them that we can't get anywhere else whereas a lot of what they buy from us (especially agricultural products) they can get elsewhere.

Way too many people still think of China as a second-rate industrial power just copying American stuff and making "cheap Chinese junk." That view is utterly wrong and will lead to dangerous underestimation of our biggest adversary.

Clearly, Team Trump has learned not to implement something that could be called a "Muslim ban". This can't be called that. I don't know what data they're working from but conceptually this is sensible. If you can't feel confident that passports from these countries represent 1) whom they claim to represent and 2) people who aren't terrorists, then we shouldn't let them in until such time as we have that confidence.
