Just One Thing: Lunatic leftist murders two Israelis in DC

Caveat: There's still some "fog of war" here and it's possible that the information floating around online is wrong

The shooter is reportedly one Elias Rodriguez from Chicago and this is reportedly him being led away:by police after the double murder, as he chants "Free, free Palestine."

OK religious charter school is not OK

A 4-4 tie on the Supreme Court (with Justice Barrett having recused herself) allows to stand a lower court's ruling against the creation of an explicitly religious (Catholic, in this case) charter school.

Ugh: "One Big Beautiful Bill" passes the House, but let's look on the bright side

I don't like One Big Beautiful Bill. I've said it enough already.

We are in a serious fiscal situation here and simply cannot afford to have the party that claims to care about fiscal responsibility preside over increased spending and stupid tax giveaways to people who, on average, don't pay very much in tax anyway. (But there are a lot of them so in the aggregate it's a lot of money, a lot of vote-buying.) That said, there is good stuff in here...a lot of it. It's just too bad that it includes some really bad policy ideas.

Doomberg is a green chicken AND the proprietor of the most successful finance-related Substack. So he is, or they are, not just the most successful green chicken on that platform; he is/they are the most successful of any form of poultry on Substack.

If you care at all about global energy issues and find a dearth of rational, data-driven, yet easy to understand analysis, a Doomberg subscription is well worth it. And, yes, I am a paying subscriber and it's the subscription I pay most for. Today we'll talk mostly about two subjects: China and international sanctions (on Russia, Iran, or anyone else.)

The NFL's Competition Committee could not muster quite enough votes to pass a rule to end the "tush push" -- or, more broadly, the ball carrier being pushed or pulled by other players -- so those plays will remain in the game. The vote was 22-10. Twenty-four votes were needed to ban the play. It seems like a big part of the discussion is whether the play had too high a risk of injury. After former Eagles center Jason Kelce showed up at the meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles' owner (the Eagles being the team that uses the play the most, and with the most success) and said the "tush push" didn't put him at additional risk, the vote to ban such plays failed. I don't like the play but not because of safety. I also can't say just why I don't like it but maybe it's because at that point you're getting away from skill and just becoming a rugby scrum. I could be wrong.
