Just One Thing: Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining

On "Meet the Press" on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that he learned from the CEO of Walmart that lower gasoline prices are a big driver of consumer confidence and spending for Walmart shoppers. Then Bessent said that gasoline prices have "collapsed under President Trump."

But they haven't.

Denver sports are mostly quite good

Thanks to the Denver Nuggets for a great season. The Avs had a disappointing playoff exit as well, but I have to say that three of our city’s four major sports teams are quite good. As for the Rockies, well, people who know a lot more than I do will have to sort that out. Not sure if it'll get better until we get different owners and I don't see why they'd sell because they keep selling out the stadium no matter how bad the team is. But for today, let's focus on the fact that the Avs, Nuggets, and Broncos are good teams. The question then is what can each of them do to try to win a championship because each of them seems close to having what it takes (especially the Nuggets, obviously.)

What's next for Nuggets? Denver is wasting Nikola Jokić's title window and has to be aggressive to fix that - CBSSports.com

Today's Guests

Mitch Mitchem is the founder of HIVE and was on the show a couple of months ago talking about AI. I thought it was so interesting and he was such a dynamic guest that I've asked him back.

HIVE

I don't know that I'll get to all of these topics but even if I don't these are interesting things to think and learn about:

  1. Why AI literacy is human skills literacy, and why AI is no longer just an IT issue but a critical skill gap that is widening fast.
  2. The shadow AI problem, including why more than 90 percent of AI use inside organizations is happening outside official channels, and how this hidden reality exposes companies to security risks and lost ROI.
  3. Building a human-centered AI strategy that empowers people instead of replacing them, with actionable steps leaders can take now.
  4. AI misconceptions that are costing companies millions, including false narratives like “AI replaces jobs” or “using AI is cheating,” and what leaders need to know to overcome them.
  5. What people need to do right now to get on this AI path.
  6. The next AI frontier beyond ChatGPT:how AI agents, copilots, and workflow automation are reshaping work faster than many leaders realize, and what they must do to prepare.

Governor Jared Polis joins me in studio at 11 AM to talk about the legislative session. What bills he was happiest to sign, what he has vetoed, what he hasn't decided about. Will there be a special session? We'll take a few listener questions by text.

I'm grateful to the governor for vetoing SB5 (as he said he would), a bill that was pushed by labor unions to try to make it easier to make Coloradans have to fund labor unions as a condition of employment. He also vetoed a bill that would let people 70 years of age or older opt out of jury service: Governor Polis Signs Bills into Law, Takes Action on Bills | Colorado Governor Jared Polis

One issue: Gov Polis wants much more houses that normal people can afford and is supporting regulatory changes he thinks will achieve that but some municipalities aren't going along:

Other Stuff

The bill may be a little better but it's still not good enough, and it's still Trump's fault that the bill is full of policies Bernie Sanders would like: Republicans muscle the ‘big beautiful bill’ out of the Budget Committee

I'm not going to spend long on this because there's little point in analyzing the insane but I will note that probably a lot of people (maybe including me) wondered at first whether the bomber might have been an extremely "pro-life" and "conservative" person, perhaps a devout Christian, and then the truth ended up being the exact opposite. Goes to show how pointless speculation often is in these situations.

A great piece by Kim, and I’m not optimistic about how Trump will approach this. I think he’ll keep calling for every redistributive tax cut AND for minimizing Medicaid reform. Yes, he likes the broad tax cuts too, but at heart he’s more of a Democrat than a Republican when it comes to budget issues and unfortunately that means that the GOP is now more like the Dems than like the GOP.

I'm glad this graduation nonsense now seems like the exception rather than the rule. It also seems like such a caricature of our current age that this fool self-describes as an "actor, artist, and gay Black trans man." Israel is the only place in the Middle East that a person fitting that description could live openly and safely. I realize this person isn't championing Hamas; it's about "genocide" (which isn't happening.)
