I note also that he mentions the decline in measles deaths in roughly the 40 years before 1960 which is true and surely due primarily to better health care. BUT if you look at the data, the actual number of cases did not decline significantly so lots and lots of people, especially kids, were still getting sick. And measles is, I'm told, not a fun illness to get. It's easily preventable with the vaccine but RFK spent years telling parents not to vaccinate their kids. You probably know this but the story of the first claims of the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine as a source of autism were pure fiction by a doctor who wanted to profit by creating a different vaccine and who had his medical license revoked after his lies were discovered.

Conservatives have spent years saying that government should not substitute its judgment for that of parents. I agree. But then those same conservatives say, "except when it comes to transgender issues." Now they'd probably argue that there is a gov't role in protecting children from harm when parents either won't protect the kids or are the source of the harm. But I still see their position on this issue as hypocritical since I assume that most parents dealing with this situation find it extremely challenging and only want what's best for their children. I read a very long investigative piece on these issues in the NY Times a few years back (probably the longest article I've ever read from them) that included a line that stuck with me, which the reporter said she'd heard from lots of parents of transgender kids...parents who didn't know or communicate with each other: "I decided my choices were a live son or a dead daughter."
