Tues Blogcast: Rep Mike Waltz; Hezbollah's gold; Super shoes

Just One Thing: Taking Hezbollah's gold (and cash)

The first time I saw it I thought it was fake, but it isn’t. Yesterday, the Israeli military posted a video to Twitter that describes the location and access points for a Hezbollah bunker built under a hospital, a bunker that the Israeli spokesman said contains hundreds of millions of dollars of cash and gold right now. While he acted as if he was speaking to the Lebanese government, it’s clear that by making this information public, Israel hopes that the people of Lebanon will take matters into their own hands. He added that the Israeli Air Force is monitoring the hospital but will not strike the hospital itself. In short, he’s inviting the people of Lebanon, the ones willing to risk their lives for almost unimaginable wealth, to destroy Hezbollah financially. Wow.

First the full 5-min statement. Second the shorter version just about the bunker.

Roger Pielke Jr is a professor at the University of Colorado (Boulder) where he teaches about the intersection of science and public policy...a truly fascinating space. Today we'll talk about two very different topics: "Super shoes" in running races and whether there's data to support their impact when used by women, and the use of a fake data set to write a "scientific" paper about hurricanes and climate-related damage and losses. I encourage you to subscribe to Roger's Substack, "The Honest Broker."

Greg Brophy is a former member of Republican leadership in the State Senate and was a candidate for governor. We'll talk about his support for Proposition 131 and why he thinks, contrary to some folks, that it should benefit conservatives in Colorado.

Here's a reasonably "fair and balanced" article about the issue: Proposition 131 — Colorado’s open primary and ranked-choice voting ballot measure — would be a seismic change for state elections. Here’s how | AspenTimes.com

I don't like taxes but carve-outs for specific groups are a really bad idea that will have negative unintended consequences. AND as much as it pains me to say it, at this point I would support maintaining tax rates where they are and slashing spending. We MUST get our debt/deficit under control. If we cut spending enough (which won't happen), we can then cut tax rates more. The worst thing for this country would be to have even more people paying no income tax. Those folks then have no incentive to support anything but bigger government and more spending. It's the road to ruin...a road we're already on.
