Weds Blogcast: Chris Cuomo; Escaping China, bringing sight; Clean slates

Just One Thing: Second Chances

I realize this may rub some folks the wrong way, but I don't mind it and I note that support in the state legislature when the law passed two years ago was nearly unanimous and bipartisan: Colorado Clean Slate Act to remove 100,000 criminal convictions from public record (Denver Post)

One More Thing: I hate this kind of thing

This made its way around conservative Twitter and even major conservative news outlets yesterday as if it's important. It's boilerplate that's included in all FBI (and some non-FBI) raid/search authorizations and instructions. It's NOTHING and yet people are playing it up as if it was some sort of threat against Donald Trump who, by the way, was NOT at Mar a Lago when the FBI showed up, because the FBI planned it that way in coordination with the Secret Service.

Biden administration authorized 'Use of Deadly Force' in Mar-a-Lago raid | Fox News

And always happy to get in on the lie for his own benefit if he wasn't the one who started it, Donald Trump jumps on the train knowing that his people won't consider the silliness of assuming that the FBI would "authorize deadly force" against him.

Dr Ming Wang's remarkable life is the subject of the new movie, "Sight", brought to you by the same independent studio that had the surprise hit "Sound of Freedom" last year. From the production company:

SYNOPSIS: Sight—starring Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine, As Good As It Gets) and Terry Chen (Almost Famous, Falling)—is based on the true story of Dr. Ming Wang, a poor Chinese American who defies all odds to become a world-renowned eye surgeon in the United States. Set in 1970s rural China, a young Ming faces persecution and despair at every turn; but with the support of his dedicated family and his own unwavering determination, he finds his way to America, attends Harvard and MIT, and helps develop an innovative technology that restores sight in millions. Taking on the seemingly impossible challenge of helping a blind orphan, the resilient Dr. Wang must reconcile with his own traumatic past and face the harsh reality that the strength of his own will can only go so far.

Other Stuff

This sucks, but it's federalism. So if people there don't like it, then vote for different politicians (and convince others to do so) or get a ballot measure passed that overrides the legislature or move. Bigger picture, this is the sort of thing that will get young women in other states who might not otherwise bother voting to come out and vote for Dems. Abortion politics is the gift that keeps on giving for Democrats because many Republicans hold views that most of the country (and perhaps even most of Louisiana) thinks are extreme.

They're saying a short squeeze is the cause of the recent spike, but short squeezes really only happen in markets that are already going up. Copper is going up because governments are trying to force the electrification of almost everything. This will cause almost everything to be even more expensive than it already was going to be. Environmental radicals will destroy your quality of life while trying to save the planet from a mythical "threat" of climate change.
