One More Thing: Minimum Wage Woes

It remains to be seen just how bad the massive fast-food minimum wage hike will be for every Californian except the ones who work at such places. It’ll be bad for consumers who will see higher prices and many employees will learn that the actual minimum wage is zero as they’re replaced by a combination of technology, more efficient employees, and more efficient processes. One restaurant chain, a chicken joint (if you’ll pardon the pun) named Pollo Campero, is trying another thing to make their restaurants more efficient: redesigning restaurants so workers walk shorter distances. Previously, a sample employee walked about 18,000 steps, or 5 miles, a day. Now that job is down to 9,500 a shift. As always, that means one employee’s job is safe while another job-seeker will never get hired.

Today's Guests

Realtor Ed Prather joins us to talk about the recent National Association of Realtors policy change regarding commissions for buyers' agents. I was personally stung by the old policy just before it changed and I'm pissed. (And I'm trying to do something about it.)

I note that the Dept of Justice is reopening an investigation into the behavior of the industry.

We'll also discuss the state of the Denver Metro Area real estate market.

Ian Fleming was clearly an insanely interesting and complex character. Author Nicholas Shakespeare has written one of the most thoroughly researched biographies I've ever seen, about one of the few authors who is less famous than the character he created, James Bond:

Lindsay Datko is founder and Executive Director of Jeffco Kids First. She'll update us on her major effort to get a bill at the state legislature modified (to comply with federal law). The bill, which seems to have been massively watered down, involved requiring schools to use a student's "preferred name" even if it were a boy's name for a female student or vice-versa. The amendment would require that, as required by federal law, certain parental notification is involved in these situations.

Sometimes Nick, formerly known as "Allahpundit", hates Trump so much that he can't say that Trump did anything right even when that happens. Today, however, he did, and his argument about Trump's video this morning arguing that abortion policy should be decided at the state level being a good (and correct) move by Trump is very similar to what I said on yesterday's show. It's worth a read (but I'm not sure if there's a paywall): Souljah Boy - The Dispatch

Similarly, I mentioned yesterday that Trump's move would open the door for some modest number of women to vote for him who might otherwise not have and also that hardcore pro-lifers have nowhere to go so Trump risks very little with his correct federalist stance. As if to prove my point, one of the main anti-abortion groups put out a statement saying they 1) were mad at Trump and 2) would keep "fighting tirelessly" to beat Biden (and other Dems): Leading Pro-Life Group Responds to President Trump on Abortion - SBA Pro-Life America (sbaprolife.org)
