Mon Blogcast: rolling back drug legalization; Dems attack charter schools

Just One Thing: The Wedding Song

Listeners sent my sister quite a few suggestions for the song to use for her mother-son dance as her son, my oldest nephew, got married this past weekend. She asked me to offer you all her thanks, and let you know what she chose: My Wish (by Rascal Flatts) - Wikipedia

One More Thing: Last comment on SOTU

I was flying to Baltimore for my nephew’s wedding during President Biden’s State of the Union speech on Thursday night. I’m so pleased that I missed it though I did read a lot about it. Here’s what I take away from it. It was a campaign speech designed to pander to the base, not reach even slightly across the aisle toward independents or Nikki Haley supporters. That shows he knows he’s weak with young voters right now. He yelled a lot to try to prove that this isn’t A Weekend at Bernie’s, but then the next day he made gaffes to remind us that it might be, such as telling voters in Pennsylvania to “send me to Congress.” He also offered a predictable massive handout to young homebuyers. I can’t believe this man is our president…and might be again.

Dan Mitchell is a long-time libertarian economist, a true expert on international financial structures, the proprietor of the International Liberty blog and co-founder of the Center for Freedom and Prosperity. We'll discuss an issue that challenges my libertarian approach on a particular issue, and maybe Dan's as well: Oregon and Drug Legalization.

Kristi Burton Brown is Executive VP of Advance Colorado and former Chair of the Colorado Republican Party. We're going to discuss a new bill at the state legislature that is designed to destroy charter schools in Colorado:

I'm wondering who their candidate might be...I mean, who's still out there who seems interested in running for president? Robert F Kennedy Jr is talking about the Libertarian Party though he's probably a better fit with No Labels. Don't know if Kyrsten Sinema would have interest. Most people have believed that whoever it is most likely takes more votes from Biden than from Trump which is why Dems are so worried about this: Third-party group No Labels is expected to move forward with a 2024 campaign, AP sources say (msn.com)

Regarding the State of the Union speech which I didn't watch: I heard Biden yelled a lot and talked about Trump a lot (without using his name.) He also offered a stupid handout that, like reassigning college/grad school debt to others, will only make the problem worse.

Regarding Laken Riley, the nursing student killed by an illegal alien in Athens, GA, Biden mispronounced her name, gets it right with “illegal” and then apologizes, giving Trump an opening.

Alabama Senator Katie Britt gave the GOP Rebuttal to the SOTU and it included a story that was, at best, extremely misleading. I wonder if she knew, or if a staffer simply wrote the words and she didn't think to ask when or where the story was from: Katie Britt used dated example of rapes in Mexico to attack Biden border policy | AP News

When asked, she claimed she wasn't trying to make people think that the story happened in the US during the Biden administration. She said "no". I don't believe her. And I really don't like that kind of stuff coming from politicians. I know we're lied to all the time but that kind of thing is one of the kinds of things that I take as crossing a line.
