Denver Election Results: Not great but could have been worse

These went as I expected. Mike Johnston will be the new mayor, beating Kelly Brough. Best news of the day: Candi CdeBaca got stomped by Darrell Watson in District 9. One of the other socialists (Shannon Hoffman) lost (to Chris Hinds) in District 10 but other socialist (Shontel Lewis) is ahead by 50 votes (over Brad Revare) in District 8 with not too many votes still to count. I note that there are over 500 "undervotes" in that race, meaning 500+ people who live in that district voted in the mayor's race but not in the city council race.

Mike has a tall task ahead of him. His instincts are collaborative but also leftist and the latter usually leads to failure on the issues that he will be judged on, homelessness and crime. I do think he'll be data-driven so perhaps if his plans don't seem to be working, he'll be willing to change them. Meanwhile, he got endorsements from the far-left and big labor and one wonders what bones he'll throw to those various parasites. I wish him will, of course, though I'm not very optimistic. Certainly, his election does NOT represent Denver's turning away from it's pivot toward wanting to be Portland or Seattle and all of the ruin incorporated in those once-lovely cities.

Just One Thing: The Denver School Board is a disaster

I touched on this on yesterday's show but it bears repeating:

In case you were wondering just how utterly radical and dysfunctional the Denver school board is, before and after members of the Board were arguing over the board president cutting off board members’ microphones, one board member said that both perfectionism and operating with a sense of urgency were characteristics of white supremacy. Then, our diversity hire superintendent who must have said all the most woke stuff in interviews, added that while apparently everyone knows that police exist to oppress non-white people, the other system designed for just that purpose is, wait for it, education. Yep, the guy hired by a racist school board to take care of almost 90,000 Denver public school students, loathes our educational system. All these people need to go. The need to go as far away as possible, and the sooner the better.

One of the craziest members of the school board said that police were created to keep slaves enslaved. Jonah Goldberg has addressed this contention:

Today's Guests

Colorado Governor Jared Polis joins me for the 11 AM hour. Rare to get this much time from any governor. I'm very pleased to be able to bring you the sort of in-depth interview that you probably will not hear anywhere else during Jared's time in this office. We will take some listener questions by text.

Dan Mitchell is President of the Center for Freedom and Prosperity. We'll discuss America's current fiscal path, which is toward "fiscal crisis" if not national near-bankruptcy, caused by an utter lack of spending discipline by both political parties, though one is slightly worse than the other.

Misinformation must, unfortunately, be accepted as a price of freedom.
