Michael Fields of Advance Colorado Institute on Property Tax and TABOR

Michael Fields is president of Advance Colorado Institute.

The disgusting hostage-taking bill known as senate bill 303 which offers not nearly enough relief from the property tax bludgeoning most Colorado property owners will soon be taking but only if voters let Democrats all but eliminator TABOR refunds is now facing a legal challenge. Under Colorado law a ballot measure, which this is, must cover only a single subject. Those challenging the measure, Advance Colorado and Steven Ward who serves on the Englewood City Council, argue that it violates that rule. I think they’re right. After all, it has provisions about property taxes, Tabor, spending money in multiple ways, and so on. As Michael Fields of Advance Colorado said, “They’re clearly trying to pair something that is unpopular with something that is popular to pass it.” I couldn’t agree more. Let’s hope Fields wins in court
