Tues Blogcast: Nancy Mace is in trouble; Robert Bryce on the power grid

The second Republican officially enters the presidential race

Just One Thing

The recent shootdowns of "objects" over the US and Canada remind me a little -- I don't want to overstate it -- of the repeated sightings of swarms of drones (mostly) over eastern Colorado 3 years ago. Now, I always thought they were military but also left room that they could have been from some sort of wacky Google project. At this point I do wonder what the things were that the US military has shot down in recent days. Were they American or foreign? Were the military or academic or corporate? Will we ever find out for sure?

So many people talk about electrifying cars and almost everything else but nobody talks about what infrastructure - beyond the power generation itself - would be needed. Robert Bryce says that it’s impossible soon and improbable later.

Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) gets called to the principal's office a lot. As the daughter of an Army brigadier general and the first woman ever to graduate from the Citadel's Corps of Cadets, she's nobody's pushover which is why she's so outspoken (but in a far more rational way than some of the other outspoken women in the Republican caucus in the House...I won't use any names.)

Nancy roasted just about everybody in a speech at the Washington Press Club Foundation, including taking a bunch of shots at Lauren Boebert as well as other Republicans and lots of Democrats. Now not every joke was very funny but they were mostly courageous...and, yes, there is an "F-bomb".

Other Stuff

I, like any other normal human, utterly hate these stories, but it must be mentioned: Michigan State University shooting kills 3, injures 5: Suspected shooter dead (axios.com)

All of the dead are/were students.

The thing that always comes into my head with things like this, and that differentiates them from a war or other organized fighting, is that the dead (other than the criminal) had no idea that they were even in harm's way. They were going about their lives, learning, talking with friends, drinking coffee, having fun, thinking about a future that they would not get to see. It's so so sad.

I talked about this on yesterday's show, wondering if it was so stupid that even the Democrat leaders of the CO State House of Representatives would send it to a "kill committee" for the public execution it so richly deserves. The answer is "no." It passed the committee 9-4 a few days ago and, I'm told, passed second reading in the House on Monday, meaning it's quite likely to pass the House. I have no idea what will happen in the Senate or whether Gov Polis would sign it.

In short, it would allow a county to prohibit the discharge of firearms in unincorporated areas of a county ON PRIVATE PROPERTY as long as there are at least 30 "dwellings" per square mile in the area. This, my friends, is utterly insane. It's an obvious violation of Second Amendment rights but I don't know if it would ever get to federal court if it passes.

Today's Videos

This video is 11 years old but it's still remarkable and perhaps kinda gross though I don't think it keeps me from wanting to eat a hot dog. That said, I only eat kosher beef hotdogs (not because I keep kosher but because I suspect they're of much higher quality) so I'm hoping the process to make those is less gross.

Don't let the article below overhype reactions. It's mostly a clickbait website that will make one comment sound like it represents a trend of thousands of people. But still it's funny/gross enough to check out.
