Just One Thing: Fallout continues from murder of Tyre Nichols

UPDATE: On Tuesday morning we learned of the suspension of a 7th officer

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/sixth-officer-relieved-duty-tyre-nichols-death-memphis-police-say-rcna68192

Yesterday, a 6th Memphis police officer was suspended but not fired. The officer, unlike those who were arrested, charged, and fired, is white. So far, the officer hasn’t been charged with a crime though it’s reported by the AP that he “is heard saying that he stunned Nichols and declaring, “I hope they stomp his ass.” Then the fire department fired three people for failing to conduct an adequate patient assessment. Which means they left him alone for far too long, not caring if he died. By the way one of those three is white and two are black. It’s hard to describe just what a complete failure of judgment, training, and humanity is represented in the death of Tyre Nichols. You know how I think about these things: The killers should receive the same treatment they meted out to that poor young man.

Pete Sepp is president of the National Taxpayers Union. The other day we had CO Attorney General Phil Weiser on the show to discuss why his office is supporting the DOJ in suing Google over their claimed monopolistic and anti-competitive practices in online advertising (as distinct from the search business though the two are not entirely unrelated.)

I'm sooooo psyched to have Bridget Phetasy on KOA for the first time. She's a remarkably interested, talented, and open person, writing about her own past (and some present) struggles, and covering a range of topics every bit as wide as the range I proudly bring to my KOA show.

She has over 360,000 followers on Twitter, lots of follower and subscribers in other places too such as her Substack and podcast. (Some of those links just below.)

Bridget got a little boost in public awareness among a different audience from her usual peeps when Ben Shapiro talked about this remarkable piece: I Regret Being A Slut - Beyond Parody with Bridget Phetasy (substack.com) She then decided that she wanted it out there in, literally, her own voice, and so she read the piece while interjecting commentary and emotion, and if I had a daughter between the ages of 16 and 30, I'd make this required viewing for her:

I'm not sure I want to share this story because I really hate sharing stories of death and sadness. That said, there's an important lesson here that nobody should still need to learn about drunk driving, and the images of a car literally cut in half are beyond dramatic. SOME OF THE DETAILS OF THE STORY ARE HORRIFIC AND YOU SHOULDN'T READ UNLESS YOU CAN HANDLE THAT. Unfortunate that anyone died, but if anyone was going to it should have been the driver and not his innocent young pregnant fiancée.Tragic details emerge in NYC crash that killed pregnant woman (nypost.com)
