TGIF Blogcast: Al Pitrelli (TSO); 23 long years in prison; Win at Wordle

Just One Thing

A listener emailed me yesterday to say that he's a Democrat, but not a wacky leftist and he didn't always appreciate the way I talk about "Democrats" supporting crazy leftist stuff. He raises a valid point and here's my reply to him:

Thanks for the note and I agree with you.
Generally what I mean when I talk about “Democrats” (and “Republicans”) unless I specify otherwise is people holding elected office, not ordinary voters. I try to remind folks of that from time to time but maybe not often enough.
There is far more diversity of opinion among voters of a single party than among elected officials of that party and even if the elected people disagree with each other they will almost always vote how party leadership tells them to, regardless of whether they are voting based on what they actually believe.

Alexander Paskov is a PhD student at MIT studying machine learning and AI. Working with his advisor, he's put together an "optimal algorithm" to play Wordle. I'm actually torn as to whether I want to know the strategy...but I do, because even if I know it doesn't mean I have to use it. And anyway, I've played about 170 times and only failed to guess the word once, so I'm doing OK already

According to comedian-author Lou Perez, the Woke agenda is “killing comedy.” In his new book "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore: On the Death and Rebirth of Comedy" (Bombardier Books, Sept. 6th, 2022) examines the past few years and the effect that media has had on what is considered “funny” and what has been censored.

So glad to see CNN firing or demoting the most egregious partisans, esp from shows that aren't supposed to be opinion shows. I think Don Lemon is in fact known more as an opinion guy than a news guy but he's just not very good and I think he'll do better as a co-host than as a guy carrying a show by himself. Plus I don't watch much TV in the morning so I'm so happy I'll almost never have to see Don Lemon even as I give CNN a chance in the evenings to see if they're getting back to being a news network.

What a non-woke comedian sounds like...and the interviewer is utterly non-PC as well

A wonderful story to head into the weekend
