Weds Blogcast: Kids and phones; Trump goes nuclear

Just One Thing

The Washington Post reported yesterday that among the papers recovered at Donald Trump's Mar a Lago estate by the FBI was "a document describing a foreign government’s military defenses, including its nuclear capabilities". The Post doesn't say directly that the document is classified but make a more general point that "(d)ocuments about such highly classified operations require special clearances on a need-to-know basis, not just top-secret clearance," leaving some to wonder if these are "weasel words" implying that THIS document may not actually have been classified.

My guess is that if the document really is what the description says it is, then the general description of the classification of such material would apply but one would be forgiven for suspicion that the Post will shade the truth in order to make Trump look as bad as possible.

That said, I continue to believe that the long-run outcome of all this is bad for Trump. It's just a question of how bad. Not that his strongest supporters will ever admit that he did anything wrong. And I continue to believe that anyone other than a former president would already have been indicted based on the current (apparent) set of facts.

I'll link to Reuters instead of the Post here because I think the Post piece requires a subscription: Document seized from Trump home described foreign government's nuclear capabilities -Washington Post | Reuters

Steven Monahan is the Republican candidate for Colorado's 6th Congressional District, taking on incumbent Jason Crow. After the new district lines take effect in January, I will once again live in CD-6 so I care about this race quite a bit though, to be frank, it's a very uphill battle for any Republican right now. I was going to say that Steve's military service makes up quite familiar with uphill climbs but since he was a Naval aviator, I may need to find a different metaphor.

I'm struggling with this one: On one hand it seems crazy that schools don't have AC. On the other hand, maybe the cost of buying, installing -- and don't forget maintaining -- these systems is so high that given Denver's typically moderate summers it doesn't make sense to have them. What do you think?

I don't know the particulars of this bill and I'm not for a path to citizenship for people who came here illegally. But I am for a path to being able to stay legally, work, pay taxes, etc, for people who are working and not on welfare. This is a critical issue for the country as nations around the world will be struggling with ballooning older populations and not enough younger workers to support them. The US is in slightly better shape than many others on that score but realistically, having a solid flow of immigrants is what every nation needs to prosper and we're one of the few nations where lots of people want to go. We should take advantage of it.
