The joke I told on the show yesterday
An elderly couple had always wanted to visit Israel. Both in their late 80s, they decided to go while they still could. Sadly, while in Israel, the woman passed away. The husband talked to a rabbi who said “Here in Israel we have a special service available for when Jewish tourists pass away in the Holy Land. Your wife can be buried in a lovely ceremony here in Israel at no cost to you.”
The man though about it for a minute and said, “No, I think I’ll take her home to be buried.”
The rabbi persisted: “Remember, if you do that you’ll have to pay to take her body and casket home and you’ll probably pay at least $10,000 for a funeral in the United States. I understand you might want to have her buried nearer to you but being buried here in the Holy Land is a remarkable opportunity for a foreign Jew and for you and the rest of your wife’s family.”
The man pondered again and replied, “No, I’m going to take her back to the US.”
The rabbi asked, “Why would you not take advantage of this opportunity?”
The man looked directly at him and said, “About 2000 years ago you buried a guy here and he came back to life. I can’t take that chance.”

Sal Mercogliano is an assistant professor of history at Campbell University in North Carolina and the proprietor of a very interesting YouTube channel called "What's Going on with Shipping?" Sal's been on the show before and I wanted to have him back today because on Monday, Kurt Cambier said on the air that he's heard that the backups to unload ships and process shipping containers at major American ports have been substantially relieved. I think Sal may contradict that assertion but whatever the right answer is, I want to know. In fact, I've posted Sal's recent video on this very subject at the end of this blog note. Check it out.

Jared Polis and Dems in the state legislature will tax anything that moves...almost literally with the new 27-cent tax on every retail delivery (including Amazon deliveries to your home as well as food deliveries, etc) and a 30-cent tax on every Uber/Lyft ride. Yesterday, a listener who provides tax services to clients emailed me a note that one of his clients received from the City of Aurora saying that the delivery tax (which Democrats call a fee to get around the Taxpayer Bill of Rights) is itself taxable by the city. Are you kidding me? EVERY Republican running for the state legislature should campaign on repealing this tax.

Doesn't it seem like a bit of obvious illogic to say "Everyone hates X. And X is everywhere."? I mean, those two things could be true at the same time but they're unlikely to be. Personally, I LOVE self-checkout. I don't mean it's always a flawless experience but I will almost always gladly choose it over getting into a checker-manned checkout line. How do you feel about self-checkout?
