5/27/25 Blog: One Republican Is Fighting Back Against A Wacko

MY FRIEND DERRICK HAS HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BROAD'S CRAP My friend Derrick Wilburn has been active in politics for years and as a Black Republican he's dealt with more than his share on nonsense. Now he's on the school board and has been dealing with an angry, out of control left winger for months now. She says her daughter and herself were traumatized by Wilburn's reading of a passage from a sexually explicit book that is available on high school shelves in D20, where he is a school board member. Since then she's continually made accusations about Wilburn that he says are clearly slanderous and instead of taking it, he's fighting back. Read the backstory here, and I've got Derrick on today at 1. If you'd like to help defray his legal fees for this fight you can donate here.

DPS IS DOING SOME SHADY BUSINESS And I genuinely don't know why the Denver Gazette dropped this story at a time Where Stories Go To Die, which is Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend. But never fear, your trusty host grabbed it Friday to discuss today. If you're a DPS parent, this should infuriate you and call into question everything about how the district is managing its finances. I'm genuinely not sure how this isn't pure fraud.

OPEN PRIMARIES COULD SAVE COLORADO And Jon Caldara writes about it here. I agree 100%. He joins me at 2:30 to chat about it.

POLIS PREPARED TO MAKE HOMES EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE IN COLORADO Because housing is so affordable now, amiright? What fresh hell is he cooking up? The State's Energy Code board is about to unleash new building code standards designed to move us towards Governor Jared Polis's idiotic and impossible Net Zero standards. Builders say the new codes, which exclude natural gas including in your appliances, and replaces them with electric appliances which may or may not work in our climate will raise the cost of a new home $25,000 t $30,000. I'm sure it will be fine, read this editorial about it here.

WE BROKE A RAIN RECORD THIS WEEKEND one that's been around for 75 years. But we need the moisture. We always need the moisture.

RISK FACTORS FOR PROSTATE CANCER Some of these you can control, some you can't, but men, you need to take responsibility for your health and get tested on a regular basis. Read more here, but understand we dames would like you around for a long time.

ARE WE HEADED TOWARDS WAR WITH RUSSIA? The charm offensive that Trump has been using to bring Putin to the table has been totally ineffective and now we're massing military hardware in Eastern Europe. You should read about the military exercises we're engaged in in the Baltic states here. Russian born Konstantin Kisin wrote a great piece about Putin and what we don't understand about him here and it's worth giving him your email address to read the entire post. Trump wants peace and thinks war is stupid but his ego won't allow these things to go unchallenged in my view.

JLO'S CAREER IS ON THE SLIDE How do I know? Because last night at the AMA's she started her performance by kissing a male and then a female singer, which is the sure sign she's begging for relevance to me. It's been done, J. Yawn.

WEIRD HOW THE COLORADO SUN'S COVERAGE CHANGES And leave it to Cory Gaines to point it out here. He notes that WHENEVER there is a story about a Trump policy with an adverse impact, Trump's name is front and center, but when a Biden era policy makes getting childcare damn near impossible in Colorado that doesn't make the headline. When the Sun started I was an early subscriber in the hopes it would be fair and balanced, but I was disappointed and dropped my subscription pretty quickly so this is no surprise.

THIS AS CPR SAYS HOLD MY BEER When it comes to covering climate change, that is. And again, it's Cory Gaines pointing it out. It seems CPR's climate reporter doesn't care much for climate realism and simply defaults to pointing at models, which are best guesses by scientists trying to affirm a point of view, instead of the actual data used by Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Read it here.

COLORADO'S FAKE CROSS BURNERS FOUND GUILTY And I think this case is a bit weird. A lot weird if I'm honest, but I didn't sit on the jury who found a couple of Black Colorado Springs residents guilty of conspiring to set a cross on fire and then lying about it to help the Black candidate for Mayor in Colorado Springs. What I find weird is that Mayor's involvement or lack of involvement which I'm still now sure of. Again, I did not hear the evidence that the jury heard, but the FBI decided Mayor Yemi Mobolade was a victim here and not an accomplice so I'm going to give the Mayor grace. But the whole thing is just weird. Funny that we have to invent racism to "prove" racism, isn't it?

POLIS VETOES THE RIDESHARE BILL And this is good because I fully believe Uber and Lyft would have left the state if these requirements were thrust upon them by our overregulating Legislature. Funny how he will veto this but not the bill that undermines parental rights in Colorado.

BANDIMERE WILL BE BACK, BABY! The family of racing enthusiasts have purchased land in Hudson to revive the family's racing business. No word on when the opening races will be held.

WANT TO LIVE LONGER? Start pumping weights, and it doesn't matter how old you or weak you are, it has big upside. Read more here.

GUESS WHAT THE MOST DANGEROUS DOG BREED IS? You get one guess and if it's not pit bulls you are a super bad guesser. Not only do they account for the most dog bites per breed, they far and away are responsible for the most fatal dog attacks even though they make up a tiny percent of the overall dog population. Find the rest of them here, but none of them are remotely surprising to me, including labs, which are on the list by the sheer number of them running around.

WHY GOOD NUTRITION SCIENCE IS SO HARD This is a long article dismantling the new study that alleges to show that Ultraprocessed foods make you eat more. But it's not just about that study, but about nutrition science overall and how hard it is to get people to only eat the stuff they want to them to eat for long enough to find out what those foods actually do to your body. It's really about the difficulty in getting long term information about how food affects your body, but it really just demonstrates how little we know about what food does to us.

JAKE TAPPER CONTINUES TO BLOW THE LID OFF JAKE TAPPER As now he's saying the coverup of Biden's cognitive decline was "worse the Watergate". I have to give Tapper a smidge of credit for continuing to fall on his sword as he did with Piers Morgan here:

“Of me, certainly. I’m not going to speak for anybody else, but knowing then what I know now, I look back at my coverage during the Biden years — and I did cover some of these issues, but not enough,” he added. “I look back on it with humility.”
Asked point blank by Morgan if he owed the American people an apology, Tapper responded: “I feel like I owe the American people an acknowledgement that I wish I had covered the story better.”

He's right, of course. But I don't believe a dude as smart as Tapper should get a pass for a level of willful ignorance on something many of us could see right before our eyes.

THIS AS SCOTT PELLEY USES A COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS TO ATTACK TRUMP And as an "unbiased" journalist seems to have quite a few biases on display here.

Thankfully the internet never forgets Scott Pelley's work about Trump previously. Here he is interviewing the now disgraced Andrew McCabe, who is lying about Trump being a Russian plant, something he already knew was based on a lie.

But sure, Scott, NOW things are awful. Sure.

A YEAR OF ALS This is incredibly sobering. Watch below or click here.

I THINK GROK INSULTED AROD But he did it to himself.

GIVING UP BOOZE COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE And more and more science is coming out that shows booze doesn't add a whole bunch to your life other than loss of inhibitions and potential chaos. Read it here.

NORTH KOREA IS MAD ABOUT MISSILE DEFENSE I am 100% on board with the United States building a kickass missile defense system that will defend us against missiles lobbed by crazy dictators like the loser from North Korea. He, on the other hand, is not so enthusiastic and is throwing a fit about it. Read this:

Pyongyang's foreign ministry slammed the plan as "the height of self-righteousness [and] arrogance", state media reported.
It accused Washington of being "hell-bent... to militarise outer space" and warned that the plan might spark "a global nuclear and space arms race".

Mmmkay, so what? He's just mad because missiles is all he's got.

THE CRYPTO DINNER WENT WELL I mean it was so good that attendees, who paid a crap ton of money to be there, hid their faces. Watch below or click here. The problem with this is that their names are going to be attainable via an open records request anyway, aren't they?

NEED A NEW MOWER? Consumer Reports has what mowers are the best value here.

I HAVE BEEF WITH MATT WALSH I've long said I don't judge other people's relationships. What works for you may not work for me, and vice versa. Matt Walsh, who I generally agree with on most things, has no such rule and he waded into it with this tweet:

No offense, but this comes off like he's an insecure man who needs to make more money than his wife. But I'm curious as to what you think.
