ANOTHER SHORT SHOW But we'll make the best of our half hour together.
DEMS WANT MORE OF YOUR MONEY TO PAY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT HEALTHCARE And this bill could cost families an extra $100 bucks a MONTH in health insurance premiums to pay for abortions, transgender care and healthcare for illegal immigrants. I am not making this up, Shaun Boyd covers the story here.
WHY I HAVEN'T BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION MUCH You're probably not going to like this but I've given up trying to inform you of all the horrible, no good, rotten bills that the Democratic Legislature is inflicting upon us. This session there are SO MANY horrible bills it would consume my entire show and frankly, I think the cake is already baked on most of them. There is little "We the People" can do to stop the nanny state gun hating abortion lovers running this state so I've decided to just not tell you until they are done. It's too stressful when you understand just how bad things are. My hope is that when some of these things work their way into practice the people of Colorado will wake up and vote differently and the Republican party will be able to field candidates who can articulate why they have better ideas about how to run things. Do you have a better idea? I'd love to hear it because the bills coming out this year are worse than those before.
NINE DAYS LEFT IN THE SESSION And today is a BIG day with hundreds already signed up to testify in the most onerous attack on Free Speech and parental rights yet in the form of House Bill 1312 which prevents parents from ever questioning their kids gender confusion. It's beyond egregious and yet I still fully expect it to pass. The good news here is that there is only nine days left for the dumpster fire to continue and hopefully more bad bills will die because they won't have time to rush them through to their foregone conclusion. Today should be a humdinger and I can't wait to see the photos of Democrat lawmakers coloring and playing with stickers while parents testify again. One interesting thing about 1312 is that has FINALLY woken up the religious community and now organized religion is coming out in force.
A CRAZY MAN IS LET OUT TO KILL HIS MOTHER This story is horrible. An obviously in my opinion seriously mentally ill man was arrested for attacking a police officer after they were called because he was throwing rocks at a woman in a park. He tried to get the officer into a headlock before being arrested and being charged with a 4th degree felony for the attack. A Larimer county judge let him out on a $250 bond and a couple of weeks later, he killed his mother. This is a complete failure of the system and shows how desperately we need a facility for mentally ill people who are dangerous to society. This 9 News story shows how Larimer is the outlier when it comes to setting super low bonds on 4th degree felonies. I can't imagine this woman's suffering with a mentally ill son ending up with her own murder. This is tragic.
WHY DOES THE FBI IGNORE GOOD GUYS WITH A GUN STORIES? Because the leadership is Democrats apparently. John Stossel lays it out here.
AURORA SEIZES ALMOST 1,000 CARS UNDER NEW PROGRAM And I like it. Last fall Aurora passed a new "three strikes" bill that put impoundment on the table for people pulled over that met certain criteria, specifically if the driver doesn’t have a driver’s license, doesn’t have insurance and has registration violations. Now they've gotten 920 vehicles off the road being driven by people who have no license and no insurance. Aurora is safer because of this but let this be a reminder to make sure you carry Uninsured Motorist coverage on YOUR car insurance. It's so worth the money.
LATINOS COME OUT AGAINST LATINO SUPERINTENDENT Or should I say "Afro-Latino bilingual" Superintendent Alex Marrero. That description comes from Sochi Gaytano, who has demonstrated time and time again she cares more about using diversity titles than competence. A group of prominent Latino lawmakers, activists, and education supporters have penned a letter asking the Denver Public School Board to pump the brakes on a new contract for Marrero because he has spectacularly failed Latino students in his district. From the letter:
In SY18-19, Latino students had proficiency in ELA and Math of 29% and 20%, respectively. Since then, these same outcomes have dropped to 24% and 15% in SY23-24. During that same time, we saw our White students return to similar performance levels from SY18-19 We request that you pause any consideration to re-evaluate the superintendent’s contract before you can assess the progress he and his team have made to increase the academic performance and well-being of Denver students.
They are not wrong and it's idiotic to even consider extending his contract which expires in June of NEXT year until the new board is seated after the November elections. I especially love that they are touting an 80% graduation rate when testing clearly shows too many students can't read or write on grade level. Fifteen percent of Latino students doing math on grade level is a crime against those students in my view and fraud against the taxpayers who fund this waste of time.
COLORADO AG WEISER FILES HIS 15TH LAWSUIT AGAINST THE TRUMP ADMIN And he's proving to be a reliable foot soldier for the lawfare that Democrats are using to try and stop the Trump agenda. You can read about them here, and I'm very interested to see how many he wins.
THE FEDERAL FUNDS FIREHOUSE FOR DENVER HAS BEEN SHUT OFF As they've been told they will not be reimbursed with federal dollars for illegal immigrant shelter. As the money is already spent, this is a problem, but not as big a problem as this part of this story
Sykes said the city typically uses $100 million to $200 million worth of grants each year, with a "vast majority" being federal grants.
"The city does not have the capacity, if all of that federal funding were to go away, to backfill it. And so, that is another risk that we are carefully monitoring and very concerned about," Sykes told the councilmembers. "There have been several grant terminations. The federal government will have to pass a new budget for its fiscal year that would start in October, and so, we don't have a lot of answers. That's something we're concerned about and continuing to monitor."
It's super easy to be a "welcoming" place for thousands with someone else's money. We'll see if this changes now that Denverites will have to foot the bill.
TOM HOMAN CALLS OUT THE BIDEN ADMIN FOR OPENING THE BORDER And you should watch this.
RIP DAVID HOROWITZ This is very sad to me, as we had become sort of neighbors in the last few years when he moved to Douglas County from his former home of California. I didn't know him well but I knew his work, as he was reformed Marxist who embraced conservative ideals and spread them far and wide. Read more about him here.
