4/23/25 Blog: Joshua Griffin Wants To Be Governor

WEATHER WEDNESDAY AT 12:30 So get your weather questions ready for Fox 31's Dave Fraser.

JOSHUA GRIFFIN WANTS TO BE GOVERNOR And he joins me today to talk about his plans for Colorado, some of which I am not a fan of. We'll do a deep dive into what he stands for at 1, find out more about him here.

SO WHO IS RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR ALREADY? Lots of coverage of high profile Democrats jumping into the race, but there are a slew of Republicans running as well. Westword has it here. Right now I'm not super hopeful for any Republican in this race but I've been wrong before.

THE ONLY SUCCESSFUL RTD LINE WILL BE DOWN FOR REPAIRS So if you are planning to head to the airport on the A Line from Union Station prepare to have to get off the train and onto buses while lugging your bags as they are working on the tracks starting Monday to May 8th. You're gonna want to have someone just drop you off instead.

DETAILS ON THE DOUGCO LAWSUIT ABOUT TRANSPARENCY And I know Lora Thomas well enough to know she would NOT have filed this if she didn't have significant evidence to back it up. Read more here.

NOW THE NEW YORK TIMES IS WORRIED ABOUT FAR RIGHT FOLKS ON X BEING THROTTLED There is no making the left wing media happy. Just two years ago the New York Times was lamenting the rise of far right hate speech on Twitter. Now here they are coming to the defense of three whackadoodle right wingers who are mad their accounts have been throttled by X and Elon Musk. The real issue they are trying to make is that Elon Musk says he's a "free speech absolutist" and they are using this to bludgeon him. But I'm of a different mindset. It's his platform to do what he wants with it. The really funny part of this story is I just saw this tweet by Catturd, a massive account with 3.9 million followers on X yesterday:

So it could be that the algorithm has been adjusted badly. I know my reach on Facebook and X have fallen way off. As a matter of fact, go like some of my posts on Facebook to see if I can breathe new life into that thing. But I'm sure it's personal from Elon. It it is, it's his toy, he can break it anyway he wants.

THIS MADE ME LAUGH REALLY HARD

MAKING SCHOOL LUNCHES GREAT AGAIN I wish DougCo would do this because according to my high school daughter the lunches at her high school are "trash" and "inedible". Too many schools have gotten rid of the lunch ladies who used to come in and actually make real food from scratch every day like they did when I was a kid. Fast food, pizza options from chains, and other garbage have been brought in as money saving ways to feed kids the food they want, rather than the food they should be getting. Denver Public Schools is trying to change that with a new program where kids grow veggies and herbs that are used in the cafeteria. What a great idea. What was your favorite school lunch when you were growing up and why it is square pizza?

A JUDGE QUESTIONS WHY THE FEDS ARE POKING INTO THE PETERS CASE Republicans who still support Tina Peters asked the Department of Justice to look into whether or not her conviction was politically motivated and they agreed. The problem is they have no evidence that it was politically motivated, something the federal judge they were arguing in front of pointed out rather sharply. From the Denver Gazette:

When the federal government files a statement asserting it has an interest in a case, "the typical situation is, 'We have an interest, judge, that you may not know about and we want you to be aware of it,'" said Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Scott T. Varholak during a hearing. "I’m just struggling to see what you all bring to the table. Like, why file this?"
...
"Do you have any evidence of that?" repeated Varholak. "That the state of Colorado's prosecution of Ms. Peters was politically motivated?"
"I’m not authorized to speak on that," responded Stout.

That isn't a confidence inspiring argument if you're a Peters fan. We'll see what happens next but I think there is very little "there" here to go on.

A COLORADO PASSPORT TO CELEBRATE OUR 150TH This is really cool. The Colorado Department of Tourism is creating a digital passport to celebrate our 150th birthday, and it will have lots of info about stuff in all 64 counties that you can do and check off. We often forget that our beautiful state is a dream destination for people from around the world and this will be a really way to discover stuff you may have missed right under your nose. Read more here.

POPE FRANCIS LEAVES BEHIND A MIXED LEGACY And Jimmy Sengenberger writes a beautiful column about it here.

RUBIO IS REMAKING THE STATE DEPARTMENT And I'm of the mindset this is long overdue. While a fake plan for cuts had been circulated, the cuts announced officially by Rubio were far smaller. On the chopping block is the State Department's Office of Global Women’s Issues and the State Department’s diversity and inclusion efforts. No big loss there. My favorite part of the whole overhaul is the possibility of cutting funding to the United Nations. I would love that. What a useless organization that has never fulfilled its mission. Read about potential cuts here.

IT'S BECOMING CLEAR HOW TIKTOK IS A THREAT And this column breaks it down in a way that even Stupid Americans should be able to understand. We shall review this. From the column:

What happens when a billion-dollar marketing machine—fueled by foreign data, run through a CCP-influenced algorithm, and distributed on the most addictive app in the world—starts targeting not just consumer wallets, but the foundations of America’s consumer-centric economy?
An erosion of trust in American brands. A growing resentment toward US trade policy. A subtle, creeping, deliberate narrative that China gives you value, while your own government gives you inflation.

And we are letting them do it. Every. Single. Day.

MORTGAGE FRAUD IS GONNA GET ANOTHER PROMINENT DEMOCRAT First is was idiotic Baltimore prosecutor Marilyn Mosby, now it's politically motivated prosecutor Leticia James. This column shows how mortgage fraud seems to be the Scam Du Jour for Democrat women these days.

THE JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL IS ON THE ROCKS And I have to tell you, I think this is the festival conservative business owners should WANT to support, as it marks the end of the scourge of slavery in our great nation, something Republicans fought hard for. Now businesses have scaled back their donations and the festival has already been scaled back to one day but they need 80 grand to make it happen. Read more here. It would be a fantastic story if right leaning people saved the day here. Just saying.

ANTI-SEMITISM IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH IN COLORADO At least in the modern era. The Anti-Defamation League says anti-Semitic events skyrocketed last year because of attacks on Jews over Israel. Read more here.

JELLYROLL MAY GET A PARDON FOR PAST CRIMES But not JUST because he's become a huge star on the country music circuit and elsewhere. It's because he uses his story of being in jail and addicted to drugs to inspire others to live their lives better. The Parole board in Tennessee has officially recommended a pardon, now it's up the Governor to decide.

PSYCHEDELICS MAY IMPROVE COGNITION This isn't suggesting that you go out and head into a cow field to find those psychedelics but new research shows that one dose of a very specific psychedelic increased the cognitive ability of mice. What does this mean for humans? No clue.

THE PLAYOFFS BRING NEW FOOD TO BALL ARENA And honestly some of these make me want to go to a game even though I don't care about either sport very much. Find the limited menu here.

IT'S TIME TO BE REAL ABOUT GENDER AFFIRMING CARE This is a good column on the extremely shaky foundations that the gender affirming care argument is based on. Read this:

At its core, gender-affirming care rests on two claims. First, it posits that biological sex is not a fixed binary but a malleable continuum, shaped by traits like sex chromosomes, hormones, genital morphology, and other physical characteristics—most of which doctors can alter with hormones and surgeries. Second, it asserts that a person can have a “brain sex”—equated with “gender identity”—that diverges from his body, creating a mismatch that drives gender dysphoria. The goal, then, is to align the body with this purportedly immutable “brain sex” through hormones and surgeries.
Both premises are scientifically untenable. Sex is not a spectrum. It’s a binary biological reality defined by reproductive function: males have the function to produce sperm, and females, ova. No hormonal or surgical intervention can change a person’s sex. Likewise, the notion that a person can have a “brain sex” incongruent with his body defies both biology and logic. Our bodies are an integrated whole, not a patchwork of independently sexed traits.

They are not wrong and we need to move the discussion from one of emotion to one of science. There simply isn't the science to back any of this up.

ESPN'S MIKE PATRICK HAS DIED At the age of 80, which I'm not sure I believe, as I'm not old enough for him to have been 80. He was the original voice for ESPN's Sunday Night Football, which I remember watching the first ever game on. Yikes. RIP, sir.

THERE IS A SHAKEUP AT 60 MINUTES As the man who has lead the program as the longtime head has resigned over what some say is a dispute with Donald Trump. It's worth pointing out that he was Executive Producer when 60 Minutes and Dan Rather smeared George W Bush's service based on "evidence" so bad the internet debunked it in a matter of hours. And that was when the internet was barely a thing.

CHIMPS HAVE BEEN SEEN PARTYING TOGETHER OVER FERMENTED FRUIT Proving that getting together for a meal and drinks with friends isn't just a human thing. Read it here.

DO YOU STILL HAVE YARD SALES? The last yard sale I had several years ago is going to be my last EVER, as I hate sitting in my driveway waiting for someone to come pick over my stuff. When I saw this article from Southern Living (my favorite magazine and the only one I still subscribe to) I figured I'd ask if this is even a thing anymore. So? Do you?

HOCKEY IS NOT FRIENDLY TO TEETH As the Caps' ice crew found Alex Alexeyev's teeth postgame after he took a stick to the face during Game 1 vs. Montreal. Yikes. He doesn't look too concerned here.

SHANNON SHARPE SAYS IT'S A SHAKEDOWN And he calls out the attorney for the woman accusing him of sexual assault for selectively editing and releasing a tape that makes him look bad. He has a point. Watch below or click here.

CHEAT CODES FOR LIFE And some of these are worth a look because they are good ideas.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT THUNDERBOLTS I loved Black Widow. I loved the cast and their chemistry so when I found out they were returning for Thunderbolts I'm all in, and now it seems critics are saying this is a good film to be excited about. Watch the trailer here.
