4/17/24 Blog: What Should the Colorado GOP Focus On?

NEW COLORADO GOP CHAIR BRITA HORN TODAY AT 2:30 So I thought we'd be helpful and figure out what issues need to be top priority for Republican candidates in the upcoming election cycles. I have some ideas, as I'm sure you do, but they may not be MY pet topic, as I want the party to focus on issues that resonate with the tons of independents in Colorado. Get your thinking caps on.

GREG LOPEZ IS RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR Again. Find out more about Greg's campaign by clicking here and I've got him on at 1pm today to discuss why he thinks this time will be different.

A MOMENT ABOUT AN ARTIST I found out last night that my friend in Fort Myers, the amazing and dynamic ray of light known as Leoma Lovegrove passed away after a years long battle with cancer. She was a special sort of artist and an even more special human. She loved her husband Michael almost as much as she loved God, and her Jesus portrayals are some of my favorite work. She painted in public, making it a communal event, and was an unabashed lover of the United States of America and all it stood for. She was one of the few artists licensed to paint The Beatles, who she loved, and she is the one who figured out that you could send decorated coconut through the mail, which Disney licensed from her, so when you see those coconuts at Disney you can mail home, please think of her kindly. Read more about her here, but she will be missed. Her artwork showed the joy in her heart. This is a video she made about her massive artwork she created at an event I was a part of on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. This is the massive piece of art we created on that day, and when I say massive, I mean a 10 x 18 foot canvas.

This is a great documentary about her here. She was one of a kind and I will miss her greatly.

TRUMP SHOULD NOT MOVE SPACE FORCE And this column makes the rational case against wasting a BILLION dollars on a purely political move. I doubt it will work, but we'll see.

YES, SCHOOLS SHOULD CENSOR WHAT KIDS HAVE ACCESS TO Is a Penthouse Forum magazine appropriate for elementary school? No, of course not, and any thinking adult should want to shield kids from content that is beyond their ability to understand, or that is not age appropriate. This is why the Elizabeth School District set up a policy with community involvement to review books for school libraries. This lead to several titles being removed for their sexual, violence, or suicidal ideation content. Of course they are being sued now and being portrayed as book banners, of which they are nothing of the sort. Read a good column on why this fight in so important here.

DOUGCO SHERIFF'S OFFICE SHOWS THEIR SENSE OF HUMOR With this tweet about a disturbance at a donut shop. It made me laugh so I thought I'd share.

WATCH THE SPECIAL ON DAVE LOGAN Which is simply OUTSTANDING. Well done, Broncos, this is amazing.

ANOTHER VIOLENT PROGRESSIVE IS ARRESTED The Left has been calling anyone who disagrees with them an ACTUAL NAZI for so many years now is it any wonder that liberals say that it would be fine to assassinate Donald Trump. What's that, you say? How could that be? Read this from CityJournal.com:

We found that nearly one-third of Americans surveyed—and around half of those identifying as left-of-center—believe that the murder of certain public figures is at least somewhat justified. The figures are startling: 38 percent of respondents, and 55 percent of those left of center, said assassinating President Trump would be at least somewhat justified; 31 percent of respondents, and 48 percent of those left of center, said the same about Musk. Forty percent of respondents, and 58 percent of those left of center, deem it at least somewhat acceptable to “destroy a Tesla dealership” in protest.

Funny how the Left calls Trump a Nazi so they can dehumanize him to make him easier to kill. Maybe these rabid angry left wingers will storm into Conservative areas and one night destroy all their businesses and homes with firebombs. It's been done before. Now we have a case right here in Colorado where a Left Wing Man sent threatening emails to local news outlets. What did they say? From 9News:

The emails detailed a “Declaration of War” against the 47th Presidential Cabinet of the United States and went on to describe how Tesla owners would be murdered on April 17, 2025, and thereafter, until the death of Elon Musk. The message listed various reasons for the declaration, including claims that Trump violated his presidential oath, the termination of federal employees and that the president "activated and empowered racism, bigotry, and hatred."

He also sent letters to insurance companies, read this:

"Specifically, We are responsible for the newsworthy killings that commence Thursday, 17 April 2025," the letters to insurance companies read. "The enclosed information is For Immediate Release and will help validate evidence shown in the coming social media campaign. We recommend you cancel all comprehensive vehicle coverage of Tesla vehicles effective 16 April 2025. We are Luigi. We Are One."

He now faces five years in prison. Good. When will the Democrats take ownership of this guy and the Intifada idiot who tried to burn down the Pennsylvania Governor's mansion? More importantly, when are the Republicans going to start making hay of all of these things to force them to do so?

CALIFORNIA SUES OVER TARIFFS And it is going to be interesting to see if they are considered to have standing in this case to sue, as tariffs are completely a federal responsibility. Gavin Newsom doesn't care, he needs to posture for his presidential run. Read more here, and though I'm not sure this will be successful he's not wrong. Congress needs to be involved in tariffs, period.

DISMANTLING THE BIDEN CENSORSHIP COMPLEX I guess I shouldn't be surprised at how much of MY money and YOURS was used by the Biden Administration to control the narrative and stop opposing viewpoints and yet, the numbers are astounding. The Free Press reports here:

Near the end of the Biden administration, researchers at the University of California, Irvine, were awarded a $683,000 federal grant to investigate how misinformation and disinformation on social media impact “vaccine acceptance among black and Latinx individuals.” UC Irvine said it would enroll “followers of known vaccine-hesitant influencers” and “develop a tool” to visualize its findings.
The award is among more than 800 federal grants and contracts since 2017, totaling more than $1.4 billion, to help curb speech considered by the U.S. government to be misinformation and disinformation. More than 600 were made during the years when Joe Biden was president.

There is a fine line between preventing propaganda and censorship, and the Biden admin blew past it a long, long time ago.

THE EVIDENCE THAT GARCIA IS A GANG MEMBER IS NOT SUPER SOLID I realize I shouldn't keep kicking this hornet's nest but I have to hold myself accountable when I'm wrong. I've said all week that my issue with the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia is about due process and that even though the government asserted he was a gang member I had not seen any actual proof of that in court. He's not been charged with gang related activity, and he's not been convicted of anything more than traffic violations. Now I have my answer, in the form of two linked documents in this story about why Trump is not defying a Supreme Court order in the case. Two immigration judges believed the Feds when they said he was a gang member, even though one of them said the Gang Field Interview Sheet that identified him as a gang member was at odds with the actual arrest report. If you read all the documents in those links, the story gets murkier for the Feds. Read this part:

According to the Department of Justice and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the “Westerns” clique operates in Brentwood, Long Island, in New York, a state that Plaintiff Abrego Garcia has never lived in. 33. The attorney for Plaintiff Abrego Garcia subsequently made multiple attempts to obtain additional information from law enforcement concerning these allegations. PGPD indicated that it did not have any incident report related to the Home Deport episode at all, nor did the Department have any incident reports containing his name. The Hyattsville City Police Department (“HCPD”), on the other hand, confirmed it had an incident report for the Home Depot incident, but that only 3 people were named and Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was not one of them, nor did it have any other incident reports with his name in its database. His attorney also contacted the PGPD Inspector General requesting to speak to the detective who authored the GFIS sheet, but was informed that the detective had been suspended. A request to speak to other officers in the Gang Unit was declined.

To be clear, this guy is STILL deportable. He has an order of deportation that has been stayed. But he deserved to have the chance to face an immigration judge ONE MORE time to make his case. You really should read all the documents. It's far more complex than what we're being told now by the government, who has every reason to lie to cover their own asses. Just saying. It's not like the government has ever lied to us before, right? NBC News reports on what the government says here, but you should read those linked documents for yourself to see why there are so many questions about this version of events being shared now.

PUERTO RICO IS A BEAUTIFUL HOT MESS I loved my visit earlier this year in Puerto Rico, but we stayed and worked in places that had generators. Apparently while we were there the power was out for hours at a time and we had no idea. The power went out islandwide yesterday and now people are asking the new Governor of Puerto Rico to fire the power company and she says she will. There is tremendous opportunity in Puerto Rico right now, but they have to fix the infrastructure to truly unleash it. If Trump intervened here somehow to facilitate a more competent power situation he would be a hero in Puerto Rico.

WHO IS READY FOR FARMER'S MARKETS? Me, that's who. Here is a list of when they open. They forgot the Parker Farmer's Market, which opens May 11th. It's one of my faves.

HAMAS IS BROKE And they can't pay their fighters. Amazing what happens when you disrupt the flow of cash from Iran to Hamas, isn't it? We'll see how long this group of murdering terrorists lasts now. From the Wall Street Journal:

Israel last month cut off supplies of humanitarian goods to the enclave, some of which Hamas had been seizing and selling to raise funds, according to Arab, Israeli and Western officials. Its renewed offensive has targeted and killed Hamas officials who played important roles in distributing cash to cadres and sent others into hiding, Arab intelligence officials said.
In recent weeks, the Israeli military has said it killed a money changer who was key to what it called terrorist financing for Hamas as well as a number of top political officials in rapid succession.
The result for Hamas has been a debilitating squeeze.
Salary payments to many Gaza government employees have ceased, while many senior Hamas fighters and political staff began receiving only about half of their pay midway through last month’s Ramadan holy period, the intelligence officials said. Rank-and-file Hamas fighters’ pay had been averaging around $200 to $300 a month, they said.

ANOTHER WEIRD OREO FLAVOR HAS SORT OF ARRIVED And this one sports pink and green filling because it's Cherry Blossom Matcha. I think matcha is gross so count me out on this one. Don't think you can run out and buy these, there are only 1,000 packages in the US (they are sold in Japan) so you have to enter a lottery to get one. You go right ahead.

BORDER PATROL MORALE HAS SKYROCKETED And you get one guess as to why the organization is seeing morale boost. His name is Trump.

ZUCK BOUGHT INSTA BECAUSE OF CAMERA ENVY I guess when you're a billionaire owner of a company and one of your rivals does something better than you do you just buy it. That's what Mark Zuckerberg says he did when he bought Instagram, which he may have to sell in an anti-trust situation. We may be witnessing the bust up of tech companies along the lines of the bust up of Ma Bell.
