2/21/25 Blog: Welp, Baseball Season Is Upon Us

SPRING TRAINING IS ON IN ARIZONA And our first pre emption is today at 1pm. I'll make the first hour count!

WHEN POLITICS KEEPS YOU OUT OF A JOB This story is really interesting but because it happened to a white male he has no real recourse. Jimmy Sengenberger wrote a column about the tale of one man's experience trying to get a job only to find out his politics kept him out of the classroom. Jimmy joins me at 12:30 to discuss it.

THERE WILL BE A RIGHT TO WORK BALLOT INITIATIVE TO VOTE ON And you can read about it here, I'll get Caldara on next week to talk about it.

CSU STUDENTS PROTEST FOR SAFE SPACES Really they were protesting that CSU has committed to following federal edicts and doing away with DEI programs that focus on division instead of unity. The only reason I'm doing this story is because of this part:

Ella Smith, a student organizer, spoke about the significance of these programs for CSU’s campus culture.
“These programs are important because they help ensure that students are able to find spaces where they feel safe before they graduate,” Smith said.

It is not, nor has it ever been, the job of colleges and universities to provide safe spaces. The fact we've allowed college students to be this coddled is shameful. Guess what? There are no safe spaces where I work. Or at the grocery store where I shop, or anywhere else a functioning adult has to be on a daily basis. Stop being so pathetically weak, you're about to be on your own. Just stop it.

THE FAR REACHING IMPACTS OF THE CBI DEBACLE former forensic scientist Missy Woods malfeasance has created a HUGE issue in Colorado. The case is so far reaching that the judge issued a delay in preliminary hearings for the disgraced scientist who is accused of lying in her work that got criminals convicted of crimes they may or may not have committed. Now the Boulder Sheriff's department says they will no longer work with the CBI because of the massive backlog of evidence processing. This seems to me to be an emergency and though there has been some action since a legislator was sexually assaulted only to find out rape kits take OVER A YEAR AND HALF to be processed, it is not enough. Victims deserve better than this.

I CONJURED UP MICHAEL HANCOCK So day before yesterday I wondered where former Mayor Michael Hancock was these days and BOOM, a column appears in the Denver Gazette by him. He's part of the  Aurora Consent Decree Monitor's Community Advisory Council and in this column he takes issue with what is happening with the CAC and alleges its being politicized outside the scope of its mission. Read it here. I did see something odd. In his bio under the column, what's missing:

Michael A. Hancock is a member of the Aurora Consent Decree Monitor's Community Advisory Council. He is a retired high-tech executive, visionary, musician, and composer, who explores diverse interests—from religion and arts to politics and philosophy—offering thoughtful insights on the intersections of culture, innovation, and society.

I'd still love to have him back on the show, I always enjoyed our chats.

SIDES ARE BEING TAKEN IN THE PUNDIT CLASS ABOUT UKRAINE And some folks who would normally be on #TeamTrump are expressing their displeasure. Mark Levin went scorched earth on Trump's recent comments on Zelensky starting the war here, and he's not wrong about Putin's history or Ukraine's constitution:

“Zelensky ordered martial law — that’s what the constitution there compelled. Zelensky hasn’t called for an election — that’s what the constitution there compels.” he continued. “Now, I’m waiting for the first free election for Vladimir Putin. I mean, this is almost comical in a sick way that Putin is demanding an election. Why is he demanding an election in Ukraine when he doesn’t have free and real elections in his own country? And why does he-, why does he get to call the shots when in fact, he murders people who dare to challenge him?”
...
“Ukraine doesn’t have the industrial might that a Russia has — or a China. A relatively small population of around 40 million people, mostly agricultural country, mostly an agricultural country. They didn’t start this war. What were they supposed to do? Roll over and play dead? Eighty-one percent of the American people do not trust Putin because 81% of the American people are smart,” continued Levin. “Because the men and women in this country who’ve been in the military who’ve fought wars, they understand, their families understand, I understand there needs to be peace between these two countries and I think Donald Trump is uniquely able to do that, to pull it off, I really do. But there cannot be peace at any cost. Reagan used to talk about this, Churchill used to talk about it, FDR used to talk about it, Patton used to talk about it. There is no peace without slavery. If Ukraine is making preposterous demands that cannot be met, that’s another problem, that’s another problem. But the idea that Ukraine must hold elections in violation of its own constitution as a condition for peace, or that Ukraine must give up more territory as a condition for peace… you have to understand the Ukrainian people don’t want to do that. That’s why Zelensky at 57%, higher than most politicians in our own country!”

Historian Niall Ferguson decided to drag George HW Bush into the fray on X about the appearance of appeasement here:

But Veep JD Vance was having none of it.

Vance is one of the most effective communicators of Trump's policies. Period. Better than Trump, actually. I can actually see both sides of this issue, but when it comes down to a simple question: what does victory look like and how do we get there? the solution is not so simple.

IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE THIS YEAR, PLEASE READ THIS This is a great column on why Bidenomics failed to deliver a win for Democrats in 2024. There is so much in here I highly recommend you read it. It's not just a failure of the policies of Joe Biden, I could argue it's about the failure of top down, central planning style governance. This paragraph near the end sums things up:

The new economic philosophy that dominated during the Biden years emphasized demand over supply. It considered concerns over budget constraints overstated and placed its faith in predistribution as a way to change the trajectory of the macroeconomy. It promised policies that could simultaneously transform industries, prioritize marginalized groups in procurement and hiring practices, and serve broad social goals. Ultimately, this post-neoliberal ideology and its adherents did not take tradeoffs seriously enough, laboring under an illusion that previous policymakers were too beholden to economic orthodoxy to make real progress for people.

Translation: They thought they were smarter than economic solid economic policy that constrains government instead of sucking money out of the private economy where it can create goods, services, and jobs that actually make the economy work.

HEY VETERANS, WANT TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY SOME GOLF? And you don't need to know how! I got this message today from a friend:

Corey Zoller, a golf pro at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, is putting together a team of veterans to participate in PGA Hope (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). I’ve attached a link for PGA Hope.
Corey asked me if I knew any veterans who would be interested in being on his team of five who would benefit from learning golf. Knowing you two are connected to communities of veterans I thought I’d reach out.
I’ve included contact information for Corey. Please reach out to him for more information or to share the name of a veteran you think might be interested in being part of PGA Hope.

Corey Zoller's email is czoller@coloradogolfclub.com if you are a veteran who would like to participate!

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON NAMES THE COUNTERREVOLUTION And he is exactly right.

NET ZERO BY 2050 IS A COMPLETE FANTASY And this post on X shows us why.

THE CALIFORNIA HIGH SPEED RAIL RIPOFF IS OVER As Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy put the final nail in the coffin of a project that has spent $16 BILLION dollars and not yet built one single foot of light rail in 17 YEARS. Watch this.

WHY THE EU SUCKS IN ONE STORY The government in Belgium is constantly looking for ways to "protect" the citizens of the EU from danger. ALL danger mind you. That is the only way they can explain a move to declare "caffeine is harmful to humans if swallowed" while they banned the use of caffeine to fight slugs in gardens. I am not making this up. This isn't the first time they've been idiots, they tried to ban cinnamon rolls too. Read it all here and begin to understand why anti-EU political parties like AfD in Germany are gaining strength.

NOTHING TERRIFYING AT ALL ABOUT THIS ROBOT Seriously, could they have picked more ominous music to show their super creepy robot "awakening"???

CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WILL RESTART GENDER AFFIRMING CARE FOR KIDS And though I love Children's Hospital I struggle with this. I can totally understand continuing care for patients already taking hormones or puberty blockers with the consent of their parents, but starting new patients down this route is a horrible idea. Why are they not looking at Europe as a guide? Attorney General Phil Weiser joined other states in suing over this, and he used the talking points of WPATH even though they have NO GOOD SCIENTIFIC DATA TO BACK THAT UP. The first rule of medicine is Do No Harm and I don't know how this isn't a clear violation of that oath.

KENDRICK CASTILLO WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN As Lucent Avenue has been renamed Kendrick Castillo Way in Douglas County where a new sign was just installed on C-470. This young hero will not be forgotten.

SWEDEN IS DONE WITH MASS MIGRATION As Malmo has become the "rape capital of Europe" and there are bombings EVERY DAY in the formerly peaceful Nordic country. They are instituting a raft of policies to get the migrants back home, including paying them to leave and adding requirements to stay that include language and cultural requirements. Read them here. Read this from a policy think tank on why this is happening now:

Over the course of January 2025 more than 30 bombings took place in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. Many of these bombings were carried out by non-Swedish teenagers recruited and hired by gangs to target their competition and in a few cases to set off bombs for no other reason than to cause maximum fear and chaos in the capital. This spate of bombings has led to a piece of draft legislation being proposed that would allow the police to wiretap children under 15 all the while the Swedish government is working with the European Union to force tech platforms such as Telegram to “do something” about “cracking down” on gang activity on the platform(s). This policy making presents more of the liberal tendency to treat the symptoms and not the root of the problem—the mass non-European immigration that has demographically transformed the kingdom. They also risk curtailing the freedoms of ethnic Swedes in their own homeland, something that should be viewed as unacceptable in response to foreign criminal activity. Luckily these are not the only solutions the Swedish state has proposed.

It seems in influx of young men who don't speak your language and don't share your values is a problem.

HAMAS SENT A RANDOM BODY BACK And it was NOT the mother of the two small children they murdered. We don't know who it is as the genetic profile didn't match any of the hostages. They also included IN THE CASKETS Hamas propaganda with the bodies. This sick, vile people need to be dealt with harshly.

TGIF EREBODY! It's time for Nellie Bowles weekly column about the dumpster fire that each week has become. Read it here. In it, she writes about how the Democratic Left is doing the EXACT same thing that the Tea Party Right did, which is go after moderates:

And Bex (can I call you that?) is certainly not alone. The hottest progressive activist groups right now are helping people figure out how to oust moderate Democrats from any amount of power. Here’s a handy guide from Indivisible entitled “Help! My House Dem Is in a Problematic Caucus.” Tips:
"Is your House Democrat in the Blue Dog Coalition? Are they a “New Dem”? Or, worst of all, are they a so-called “Problem Solver”? These caucuses might sound good on paper, but they fill your House Democrat’s ears with mostly wrong ideas. That means you may have to work extra hard to make sure they’re supporting progressive policies in Congress."
A problem solver? God forbid! Dems have no majority in the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and obviously no hold in the White House. And what are they doing? Organizing to go after their moderates. This is what they want their energetic activists spending time on. The truth is, Indivisible and the Rebeccas of the world don’t want to win anymore—they just want their enemies to lose, and the worst enemy they can imagine is not the actual Right but a Blue Dog Dem holding it down in a purple state, white-knuckling through another question on abortion. So anyway, this ends as these items always end: Andrew Tate, just at least make me a mid-ranking member of the harem. I have a few childbearing years before you send me to the glue factory. My cheekbones are high and my teeth strong and youthful.

She is exactly right.

MARCO RUBIO EXPLAINS WHY TRUMP IS UPSET WITH ZELENSKY And it makes a LOT of sense.
