2/20/25 Blog: Right To Work Could Go National

COULD WE GET A NATIONAL RIGHT TO WORK BILL? The introduction of the National Right to Work Act in the U.S. House and Senate. The bill would end forced union dues payments for private sector employees across the country. Its introduction comes as a fight is brewing on Capitol Hill over Lori Chavez-DeRemer, whose confirmation hearing for Labor Secretary is coming up soon. Chavez-DeRemer backed the PRO Act when she was in Congress, which would have eliminated every state Right to Work law. I've got Mark Mix, the National Right to Work Committee President, on today to talk about the bill just introduced by Rand Paul. He's on at 1pm, follow them on X here or on Facebook here.

WHAT IS THE END GAME ON UKRAINE? I've said multiple times that everything Trump does should not be taken at face value because there is another endgame that we may not know about. That being said, I am genuinely confused by the open hostility from President Trump and President Zelensky. First off, Zelensky is an idiot to take the bait and fight back. He needs us WAY more than we need him. But why is Trump doing this? Is it to soften up Putin so a deal can be struck? Is it genuine animous because of the close relationship between Biden and Zelensky? Does Trump know something we don't? I don't get him trying to blame Ukraine for Russia's invasion. What do you guys think? Or do you even care?

NO, TRUMP IS NOT KING AND I DON'T THINK THIS IS FUNNY To be clear, there are many things Trump is doing that I really, really like. Immigration security, DOGE, getting rid of wasteful departments, I'm all for it. But when he posts stuff like this on social media, I am immediately turned off. It's not funny. It's not cute. And it's not true.

I get it, it's a JOKE, Mandy, don't be such a snowflake. We fought a war to be done with kings and I don't want my President to even pretend he thinks he's a king in any way shape or form. I said what I said. If OTHERS say it about him, fine, but when HE says it, I don't like it one bit. He posted it yesterday after his administration pulled support for the congestion pricing, which most New Yorkers despise. Maybe New Yorkers think the king thing is funny.

WHY IS DENVER SPENDING TWO MILLION DOLLARS ON A CONGRESSIONAL APPEARANCE? Mayor Mike Johnston has been called the carpet in DC to answer for Denver's Sanctuary policies. Fine. He and other Democrats love to tell us we AREN'T a sanctuary even though our laws clearly say we are. So is that why the City of Denver just signed a contract for up to TWO MILLION DOLLARS with a local prominent law firm for this appearance? I'd love to know more, but has there been a mayor in recent history who has blown through as many taxpayer dollars as this guy? And why does he think he can't handle this on his own? Weren't there a bunch of Highlands moms he could take for free? This is absurd but Denver voters did this to themselves. I genuinely can't wait to see this. The Denver Gazette did a good editorial on it here.

CAN TRIAL LAWYERS KILL CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS REFORM AGAIN? Democrats get a LOT of money from trial lawyers. It's just a fact. That's why when someone tries to take away their gravy trains they come out in full force to protect those trains. That's why Democrats have filed a bill that would make building condos even more impossible by preventing builders from adding language about fixing defects to contracts. This is in direct opposition to a GREAT bill, backed and pushed by the Governor, that would finally give some relief to builders of condos. Read this part:

A report last September from the free-market think tank Common Sense Institute said that "insurance costs for condominiums surged to 5.5% of a project’s hard costs, more than 233% higher than multifamily rental home projects, which had insurance costs as low as 1.1% to 1.65% of project hard costs." Insurance costs are tied to lawsuits over construction defects, supporters of changing the law have argued. Under HB 1272, the statute of limitations for filing claims would change to 10 years unless the builder provides a warranty that meets the revised law's requirement. In that case, the statute of limitations is six years.
Under the bill, the approval for a homeowners' association to pursue a claim will increase to 65% from its current 50% plus one. Finally, the bill includes a "rebuttable presumption,” which can be used in a lawsuit, that a property has no construction defect when a state agency or local government has issued a certificate of occupancy.

Read the rest of the article to get a feel for how much of a difference this will make for the construction of affordable housing. I hope it passes, the trial lawyers have enough reasons to sue and we need housing more than they need a paycheck. Credit to Jared Polis for making this a priority as well.

JON CALDARA GOES NUCLEAR Well not in his normal way, but this column about Colorado needing to embrace nuclear to meet its energy needs while pursuing fewer carbon emissions is spot on.

WILL REFORMING RTD MAKE YOU RIDE? This is another "moving the deck chairs around the Titanic" moment for mass transit in Denver. The Legislature thinks "reforming" the governance of RTD is going to make a difference. It won't. You can change the whole system and it's not going to make people ride. It's too time consuming, too inconvenient and too expensive to make mass transit worth it here. Another point no one seems to point out is that we aren't going to move people out of their cars they way Europe has because we're not willing to put 25% tax rates on them. What can be done here, because government loves the sunk cost fallacy and will never give this up.

HOW DENVER FUNDS LEFT WING ORGS UNDER THE GUISE OF HELPING MIGRANTS Hooboy, the threads are unraveling on how the Democrats use taxpayer dollars to fund left wing organizations who all seem to have ties to the Tides Foundation. It's worth going down these rabbit holes to see just how much of OUR money is given to places who advocate almost solely for left wing stuff.

GO READ THIS EDITORIAL, WILL YOU? It's not about a town you probably care about as I don't even know where Clarksdale, Mississippi is. That being said, a judge there ordered a local newspaper to take down an editorial critical of local government because they didn't like it. So just to stick to these anti-free speech jerks, click here to read an archived copy, will you? Just to show them how dumb they are? Thanks! What's it about? The fact the city wasn't transparent about a meeting about a tax increase. Seems transparency is a big issue in Clarksdale.

PAUL SIMON IS COMING TO DENVER And will play three shows at the Paramount next summer. He's doing the smaller venue because of the catastrophic hearing loss he's suffered in recent years, as very specific accommodations have to be made so he can continue to perform live. Read more here.

JOHN FETTERMAN IS LOSING STAFF Because he's not your typical Democrat. You can read more here but I don't blame someone who thought they were going to work for one political ideology only to find out their guy wants to blaze his own trail. I hope he finds good staffers who support him.

BE CAREFUL WITH SUPPLEMENTS I take a handful of vitamins and supplements daily. They are pretty straightforward, nothing weird, but I still order them from an online source that tests for strength and quality ingredients because the supplement market can be like the wild west. Things you think you are buying are now what you think they are, and some supplements have been linked to liver damage. Read it here.

HAMAS IS VILE AND DISGUSTING And I try to not to hold hate in my heart but how can you not hate those who murder babies and little children? Hamas did just that, and then paraded the locked coffins in front of other horrible Palestinians before returning their dead bodies to Israel. I don't understand how anyone can be on the side of these monsters.

WANT TO TAKE A STROLL THROUGH HISTORY? This is actually a very cool TikTok trend where people make videos of what it would be like to be a caveman walking out of a cave, or a visitor to Pompeii on the day of the eruption. This is super neat.

AMAZON IS TAKING CHARGE OF BOND And this is pretty earth shattering as the franchise has been shepherded by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli since the death of their father and producer and Bond creator Albert Broccoli years ago. Now a deal has been struck to hand over creative and intellectual control to Amazon MGM. I hope they don't screw this up by making Bond a woman.

REACHER CALLS OUT MATT GAETZ As the two men grew up in the small community of Niceville. There is no love lost, as Alan Ritchson, the man who plays Reacher in the eponymous series, is not a fan of Gaetz. I agree with Ritchson.

IF YOU'RE GONNA BE A DUMB NAZI, YOU BETTER BE TOUGH I think the protests going on right now about immigration are a silly waste of time. I ignore them because of this. One dude is facing charges after he couldn't figure out how to do that and decided to hit protesters with a "White Power" yell and Nazi salute, while also throwing stuff at protesters. It was that last part that got him arrested. His White Power brethren must be so proud.

HOW USAID HELPED CORPORATIONS TAKE OVER UKRAINE FARMLAND This is one of those columns that is written in such an alarmist way I almost didn't share it, but the underlying points are VERY important. He who controls the food, controls the people is unfortunately very, very true, and now corporations are controlling the food.

SANDERS LEARNED HIS TRASH TALK FROM THE BEST His dad was known as as excellent trash talker in college and it seems Shedeur Sanders has learned some of that and is directing it at Cam Edwards during pre draft workouts. Good news, though, Edwards can hold his own.

NO, ELON ISN'T SENDING $5000 CHECKS And that story needs to DIE NOW. This is what he actually said and didn't say.

So maybe a tax cut or something, but don't send out more checks. Those stupid "stimmy" checks were a huge part of our inflation debacle we're still dealing with.

HOW DO YOU SOLVE THE COURTLAND SUTTON PROBLEM? To be clear, Courtland Sutton is NOT the problem but he deserves a big payout and it isn't clear if the Broncos are going to give it to them and crush their cap. The KOA sports men sort it out.

AND WHAT DID SHE FIGHT FOR IN THE CAMPAIGN? Good grief I hope she's the candidate in 2028. Watch below or click here.

ABOUT THE GULF OF AMERICA This girl is very funny and this is spot on. Watch below or click here.

NEW YORK DOESN'T WANT ANY FEDERAL MONEY Even though I find myself in the uncomfortable position of agreeing with her on the king thing, New York gets gobs of federal dollars so her claims of independence fall a bit flat. Watch below or click here.

THIS IS TACKY A LOT of people voted for immigration enforcement. The White House decided to put out this video, calling it ASMR: Illegal Alien Deportation Flight. ASMR, if you don't know, is referring to a class of videos with soothing sounds and video, like carpet cleaning. But this isn't about carpet cleaning, this is about humans. Humans who did bad stuff, but humans. I want them out, but I don't want victory laps like this one that make light of what's happening. On the flip side, I do think it's important for people to see the actual consequences of their votes. Though uncomfortable about the video, I am aware of what I voted for.

BAD LIP READING LADY GAGA

HOW TO NOT BE HUNGRY Y'all, I've started following her hacks and I SWEAR my hunger and food cravings are GREATLY reduced and I bought nothing to make it happen. I LOVE her.
