JARED POLIS HATES YOUR CAR Unless you're wealthy enough to have an electric car that is. His new Project 2035 is full of ways to force people out of their cars and into mass transit. Nothing on making roads better, just more transit money poured down the drain after other transit money that has been poured down the drain. If I'm a Republican who wants to be Governor, I make this my main talking point. The Governor doesn't care how YOU want to live, he wants to force HIS vision of how you should live down your throat. If you like your car, you should probably leave Colorado, at least that's how I read it. We shall discuss so read it here.
THIS STORY MADE ME LAUGH TODAY Someone in Boulder has taken it upon themselves to post additions to the Speed Limit signs in several locations. What makes the funny is they are mostly obscene. From our friends at Fox 31:
The signs used explicit language telling drivers to “slow down [expletive],” “put down the phone [expletive],” and “don’t kill any kids today.” The fourth sign listed the speed limit as “slow the [expletive] down.”
I have no clue who did this but I feel you, I've often wanted to do something similar myself.
NETANYAHU UNLOADS ON BIDEN I had a feeling that we would get this eventually but did not see it coming this soon after the election. Check out this from Benjamin Netanyahu:
“The US had reservations and suggested that we not enter Gaza,” said Netanyahu in the Knesset plenum on Monday. “It had reservations about entering Gaza City, Khan Younis, and, most critically, strongly opposed entry into Rafah.”
...
Speaking nearly two weeks after the US election, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly criticized the Biden administration’s judgment and policies at major junctions in Israel’s ongoing war against Iran and its proxies.
“The US had reservations and suggested that we not enter Gaza,” said Netanyahu in the Knesset plenum on Monday. “It had reservations about entering Gaza City, Khan Younis, and, most critically, strongly opposed entry into Rafah.”
Administration officials had publicly urged Israel to calibrate its Rafah offensive to minimize civilian harm.
“President Biden told me that if we go in, we will be alone,” Netanyahu said. “He also said that he would stop shipments of important weapons to us. And so he did. A few days later, [US Secretary of State Antony] Blinken appeared and repeated the same things and I told him — we will fight with our nails.”
It seems he is as impressed with Biden's foreign policy as Robert Gates was when he said Biden has been wrong on every single foreign policy decision he'd ever made. He's right.
THE CHICKENS HAVE COME HOME TO ROOST WITH COLORADO'S BUDGET I keep telling people both on and off the air that the Democrats are doing things right now that are going to make Colorado prohibitively expensive (more so than it already is) because of the growth of government. Now lookie here at this editorial that talks about the budget "shortfall" that our Legislature is facing. Read this bit:
But it seems neither side got to the biggest problem — the elephant in the room — until the budget committee’s Republican Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer of Brighton pointed it out in a meeting last week. She noted that since Polis has been in office, the state payroll has been growing by about 1,000 positions a year. Kirkmeyer questioned why Polis isn’t imposing a hiring freeze or requiring a much larger across-the-board cut of 10%, and she’s right.
Indeed, as we noted here just last spring as lawmakers adopted the state’s current budget, 1,220 positions were added to the state payroll for the 2024-25 fiscal year alone. That brought the state’s full-time workforce to 66,189 — a 2% increase over the previous fiscal year. And in the budget year before that, more than 1,000 full-time state agency positions were added to implement and run new policies and programs.
And remember, the Democrats just made it easier for public sector workers to unionize, so these costs are surely going to rise. When government gets bigger it doesn't get better. More for competent Republicans to run on.
AURORA IS JUDGING EFFECTIVENESS BEFORE DOLING OUT FUNDS Aurora is breaking the mold right now on homelessness as they are gearing up their campus to provide sweeping services along with shelter to people living on the streets. In doing so they had to redirect quite a bit of money to that effort meaning that some non profits will not be getting money from Aurora this year. How did they decide who to leave out? They looked at effectiveness of the programs. Imagine that. Read it here. This is also why you don't fund ongoing services with sin taxes like those on pot. When people cut back, the tax collections fall.
DOUGCO ARRESTS SHOPLIFTERS That's the story, right there. When a store in Douglas County calls the cops on suspected shoplifters they show up and catch people. I've seen this happen TWICE at the Walmart I shop at and I clapped for the deputies both times. The biggest issue they have is that stores DON'T call them when someone steals. Call, people. Just call. I'm just trying to spread the word that such nonsense isn't tolerated in Douglas County.
COLORADO PAYS THE ATTORNEYS FEES FOR A WOMAN THEY HASSLED And this is about web designer Lori Smith, who didn't want to make websites for gay weddings. The absurd Colorado Civil Rights Commission went after her because they hate people of faith and the case made it to the US Supreme Court where Colorado lost...again. Now taxpayers will be footing the bill for her attorneys fees and I'm okay with that.
LET'S GET SOME SKI UPDATES First off, A Basin has officially been sold to the Alterra Mountain Group, though the leadership will remain the same for now. Winter Park, Eldora, and Loveland are opening this weekend, read more about those offerings here. Here is a nice overview of a lot of ski areas if you're new to Colorado. Bus service between Boulder and Eldora resumes this week as well, find out more here. May all you skiers and boarders have a great and safe season!
THE NFL EMERGES FROM THE FOG OF POLITICS We were one of those families that turned off the NFL when players were kneeling for the anthem. Just what did that do to stop injustice, by the way? We have started watching again this year because most of the anti-racist BS is gone as the league realizes that staying in their lane is the best approach. We are not alone. The ratings this year for the NFL are really, really good. The NFL scored 16 of the most watched shows for the month of October. Keep up the good work, kids.
MODERN MONETARY THEORY MAY HAVE WON TRUMP THE WHITE HOUSE and you probably don't even know it's a thing. Modern Monetary Theory says that government, as the sole printer of fiat currency, doesn't really have to worry about debt and spending because they can just print more money. What this ignores is the inflationary nature of printing more money. It's THE CAUSE of inflation. Exit polls showed that voters who moved to Trump cited inflation and the high cost of everything as the reason for that move. Here's hoping that future politicians pay attention and desert this ridiculous theory.
THIS FEELS INSURRETIONY TO ME Remember when people flooding into DC office buildings to interfere with the work being done there was a crime? Me too, so I'm wondering how many years in jail these clowns are going to get.
MGT THREATENS TO THROW EVERYONE UNDER THE BUS And I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of down with this tweet:
Wouldn't you like to know if lawmakers are paying off victims of sexual harassment and abuse with taxpayer money? I sure would. I am slightly uncomfortable endorsing an idea from Marjorie Taylor Greene but this is a good one.
WHY IS GALLUP'S POLLING ON GUNS ALWAYS SO WRONG? This article wants to sort that out and does a good job of explaining how key words designed to get an emotional response are a part of the issue. Read it here.
THE DEMOCRAT CIVIL WAR IS SORT OF FUN TO WATCH And I have to wonder if this is what people who packed picnics to go watch the war at Gettysburg felt like, only with no actual bullets flying. The verbal assaults was vicious between Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks and the insufferable Alan Lichtman, the professor who said with certainty that Harris was going to win. Pop some popcorn and check this out. Heh.
This story is about how the pollsters got the election so wrong while a group of people evaluating early voting as a side hustle got it very, very right. I feel like we're very near the end of polling as we know it.
AND NOW THE UNION IS MAD AT DEMS Because the DNC laid off a bunch of people right after an election where they blew through over $1.5 BILLION dollars in 105 days. As their workforce is of course unionized the union is howling about where the money went. Good question, you should probably ask Kamala Harris but expect a word salad answer back. Even Katie Couric noticed.
PUEBLO VOTED FOR TRUMP Pueblo is really a great example of the shift in working class voters to the Republican party. In this post mortem about what areas in Colorado voted for whom, Pueblo went for Trump 53% to 47% for Harris. From Colorado Politics we find that the Front Range mostly went for Harris with some exceptions, like Weld and Douglas and El Paso Counties. The big takeaway here is that the Front Range makes up 84% of the electorate, with the Denver Metro making up 56% of the votes cast statewide, which is going to make it hard for a Republican to win a statewide race anytime soon.
THE WRIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB What we can expect from Energy Secretary to be, assuming he is confirmed. I like what I read so far.
YOU TURKEY TROT MANIACS LISTEN UP I am more a mimosa on Thanksgiving sort rather than a get up and run a 5k sort but maybe someday. Here is a list of all the various Turkey Trots, many of them this weekend.
JON STEWART TEES OFF ON DEMOCRATS He went scorched earth in his Daily Show monologue and it's really, really good.
