DENVER IS ADDING ANOTHER EXPENSE ONTO LANDLORDS And this time its in the form of a rental license that will become mandatory next year. To be clear, this will do NOTHING except enrich Denver and make rent higher as landlords, especially mom and pops who only own one or two properties, pass those costs along to the renters. This as rents are sky high already. One part of this article jumped out at me:

Lawmakers said this would help the city get a clearer picture of its rental stock and enforce better living conditions.

I'm sorry, "its" rental stock? Like the city owns those rental properties? I don't think so because if Denver did own rental properties they would most assuredly be more run down than any properties owned privately.

IF YOU WANT A TOTALITARIAN HOA JUST MOVE TO GREEN VALLEY RANCH Because their HOA sues the crap out of the homeowners who live there ALL THE TIME. Before we moved into our neighborhood we read every covenant of the HOA precisely because we didn't want to deal with a situation like this one. The Green Valley Ranch Master HOA is behind more than HALF of the lawsuits filed in 2021 involving HOAs in Denver. More than HALF. This story lays it all out, but you need to understand what kind of HOA you are buying into when you buy. Some people like a super strict HOA because they want their neighborhood to be a certain way all the time, but this is insane. I'm guessing the HOA board there turned over recently and someone is mad with power.

THE LEGISLATURE IS TRYING TO CURTAIL UNLIMITED EMERGENCY POWERS And this is a very good thing after we saw how those powers were imo abused during covid. The new bill would require the Legislature approve emergency powers beyond one year (I think six months would have been more appropriate) and kick decision making to local governments after seven days. This is a good thing and it has bipartisan support.

THE SAUDIS LITERALLY BLEW OFF JOE BIDEN And not just the Saudis, the United Arab Emirates did too. Biden was calling the despots to beg them to turn on the oil and gas spigots while doing nothing here at home to do the same. The Saudis were too busy torturing gay people or preventing women from driving or something I guess. Both Saudi Arabia and the UAE say they don't want to talk to Biden until he commits to support them in the civil war in Yemen. Hard pass on that, thanks. So here we are, with gas prices rising by the minute and a President truly baffled on what to do next because if he says Drill, baby, drill AOC will become apoplectic and I think he's scared to death of that wing of his party. The Dems own all of this. Heh. From the Wall Street Journal article:

The Saudis have signaled that their relationship with Washington has deteriorated under the Biden administration, and they want more support for their intervention in Yemen’s civil war, help with their own civilian nuclear program as Iran’s moves ahead, and legal immunity for Prince Mohammed in the U.S., Saudi officials said. The crown prince faces multiple lawsuits in the U.S., including over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
The Emiratis share Saudi concerns about the restrained U.S. response to recent missile strikes by Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen against the U.A.E. and Saudi Arabia, officials said. Both governments are also concerned about the revival of the Iran nuclear deal, which doesn’t address other security concerns of theirs and has entered the final stages of negotiations in recent weeks.
The White House has worked to repair relations with two key Middle Eastern countries it needs on its side as oil prices push over $130 a barrel for the first time in almost 14 years. Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. are the only two major oil producers that can pump millions of more barrels of more oil—a capacity that, if used, could help calm the crude market at a time when American gasoline prices are at high levels.

If you are unwilling to get the energy our country must have by getting it here, you are reduced to sucking up to these people. This is what we've become under Joe Biden's leadership.

HOW IS COLORADO OIL AND GAS REACTING TO THE BAN ON RUSSIAN OIL? They want government to get out of the way to let them drill. It's really that simple.

THIS AS AMERICANS OVERWHELMINGLY WANT MORE AMERICAN OIL AND GAS And this poll isn't even close. A whopping 70% of Americans say drill, baby, drill, while 18% want you to pay six bucks a gallon. Why let the 18% hold us back?

WE HAVE TO STOP WITH THE CANCELLING OF INNOCENT RUSSIAN PEOPLE It happened in Montreal as a 20 year old Russian piano phenom was scheduled to play but has now been cancelled. To be clear, young Mr.  Alexander Malofeev has been outspoken in his criticism of the invasion and says he has family in Ukraine, but Canada demanded he be cancelled anyway. Some of my favorite immigrants I've ever met have been Russian because they were so happy and appreciative to live in a free country, please don't be nasty with them about Putin's invasion.

THIS AS PUTIN MAY BE CREATING A MELTDOWN IN UKRAINE Because the nuclear reactor that was targeted by Russian bombs is currently out of electricity and that means the system that cools spent nuclear fuel rods can't operate. The backup diesel generators have 48 hours worth of fuel, but if the Russians don't allow Ukraine to restore power a radiation leak is imminent. A leak, by the way, that could blow nuclear radiation INTO RUSSIA along with Europe and the Baltic States.

THE WHO SAYS SWEDEN WAS RIGHT At least that's how I'm taking the announcement that Swedish epidemiologist Anders Tegnell is going to work for the World Health Organization. He's the man who said no to lockdowns and guided Sweden through the pandemic without mask mandates and draconian economy killing measures. The AP wrote a story that blasted out a falsehood I've seen over and over again in this paragraph:

The chief epidemiologist who was considered the architect of Sweden’s pandemic approach, which avoided lockdowns but saw the Scandinavian country earn one of the world’s highest per capita COVID-19 death rates, is going to work for the World Health Organization.

Can you guess what the problem is? Sweden, in a list of developed nations, is #41 on covid deaths per million, which is the only apples to apples way to measure things. Their rate is roughly half of the United States and the UK.

A SIMPLE TIP FOR MAKING MONDAYS WORK This from the CEO of Google, who says on Mondays he likes to spend the morning reflecting on his week and what he wants to accomplish, making notes of four or five things he wants to get done that week. Why is this good? It allows you to create some focus, which I find gives me the feeling of control over my week that I want.

CAN YOU JUST PUT REGULAR GAS IN YOUR FANCY CAR? The short answer is sometimes but not all the time, but I'd rather pay for more expensive fuel than an expensive repair. Read more here.
