Mandy's Thu Blog: Erik Aadland and Let Parents See Curriculums

ERIK AADLAND IS ON TODAY He's running for CD-7 and as a combat vet I thought he might have some interesting perspective on the events in Ukraine right now. He joins me at 1 to discuss. Find out more about his campaign by clicking here.

SHOULD PARENTS SEE WHAT THEIR KIDS ARE BEING TAUGHT? There is a bill that would require teachers to post their materials and sources lists online in Colorado. I totally get why this is a seemingly large hurdle for teachers, but as we move to more online based learning I think it gets WAY easier. However the bill will die because Democrats have been pretty consistent in letting us know they don't care what parents think when it comes to schools. Read more here. The Denver Gazette has an editorial urging passage of the bill here. Frankly from a purely political standpoint I hope they kill it. That would be an epic campaign ad.

A BIPARTISAN BILL WOULD PROTECT CERTAIN OFFICIALS FROM SPECIOUS COMPLAINTS And I am actually 100% okay with this. It is designed to address a situation that occurred when a member of the Douglas County Health Board voted against a mask mandate for the county. Some rotten Karen filed a complaint with the licensing board of the state which oversees her radiology license. The complaint literally said is was about her view on masking but she had to defend herself anyway, even though the complaint had nothing to do with how she practices medicine. Now that will remedied by this bill and I think that's a good thing.

WHY DON'T WE HAVE GENERIC INSULIN? I have to thank listener Michael for passing along this great article from FEE.org about insulin prices and why we don't have generic insulin. The short story is that it's a biologic, not a drug, the FDA makes it very expensive to bring a new one to market and the drug companies don't seem to want to bring the price down when they don't have to. There are ways the government can fix this quite easily but they don't.

DOUGCO NAMES TWO FINALISTS FOR SUPERINTENDENT And the public will have the chance to weigh in. No disrespect to Danny Winsor, who is one of the finalists I know nothing about, but I am all in for Erin Kane. I got to know Erin when she was Interim Superintendent and SHE is the reason I voted for the mill levy override in SPITE of the failed Superintendent Thomas Tucker that the three minority board members hired with disastrous results. It was laughable at yesterday's meeting when Elizabeth Hanson asked that Winsor be the sole finalists so the fractured board could "come together behind one candidate". If she feels that strongly why not get behind Erin Kane? Erin was Interim Superintendent for 18 months, during which time she visited EVERY school in the district, talked to EVERY principal in the district and talked to teachers and staff about what they needed. She doesn't play the stupid educrat games, she's got Executive level experience running three campuses including their capital needs and she is a FANTASTIC human being who believes in public education that works for EVERY kid, not just for the kids who are served well by traditional public schools. We say David Ray's hate for charter schools on full display with his angry and dismissive comments directed to Director Williams when they fired Wise, so charter school parents would do well to have someone who believes in choice at the helm. And that is precisely why the three minority board members will not "come together" and support her if she is chosen. They only want unity if they get to decide who to rally around. Watch it, it's going to go down just like that.

DAISY HAD A RUFF MORNING But South Fire Rescue Metro helped her out.

RUSSIANS CONTINUE TO BOMB THE CRAP OUT OF CIVILIAN CENTERS As this goes on, I don't see a way for Vladimir Putin to come out of this with any modicum of respect on the world stage. I don't see how we let Russia back into civil society after this. Read more here, but it's bleak and many Ukrainian citizens are being killed every day. Pray for Ukraine, pray for the world to find a way to stop this and pray for Putin to drop dead.

EUROPE IS AWAKENING FROM IT'S DEPENDENCY SLUMBER I'm talking about their collective slumber when it comes to their own defense. This is a GREAT column about how when people, or in this case nations, are not responsible for themselves, or decision making takes place for them far, far away, they lose their ability to self determine. In this case they've lost their ability for self-defense. Between Trump calling them out and Putin blowing up civilians in Ukraine, we seem to have awakened the leadership of Europe. Here's hoping this is the beginning of self sufficiency and some measure of equality when it comes to defending Western ideals.

THERE MAY HAVE BEEN ENOUGH FRAUD IN WISCONSIN TO FLIP THAT STATE TO TRUMP FINALLY we have an investigation that seems to show massive voter fraud! Not just accusations, but real voter fraud, and this was not only sanctioned by the Wisconsin Elections Commission, it was ORDERED by the WEC. What happened? The WEC told nursing homes to ignore the state law that spells out very clearly how nursing home residents are to vote. Their vote MUST be witnessed by either a family member or a Special Voting Deputy, and the WEC simply told them to ignore that requirement. Additionally, the number of nursing home registered voters who voted was 100% at some homes, while not all the residents there are mentally able to cast a vote. Though charges were being considered by a local DA, the members of the WEC are not in her district, limiting her ability to go after them. The Democrat Wisconsin Attorney General has indicated he has no interest in investigating this. I wonder why. Remember this when Democrats say they care about elections. The Democrats are attacking the investigation as partisan, of course. Perhaps they should ask federal law enforcement to check into things?

ABOUT GINNI THOMAS, CLARENCE'S WIFE If you haven't seen any of the stories accusing Justice Clarence Thomas to be "compromised" because of his "radical" wife just skip over this. But if you have, you really need to know the other side of the story. This column explains how a reporter at the New Yorker, shored up by reporting at the New York Times, made up out of whole cloth a complete lie about a listserv email group comprised of former Thomas clerks. Read this column with the truth in it, and then read this completely made up paragraph from the New Yorker:

Later that January, the Washington Post revealed that she had also been agitating about Trump’s loss on a private Listserv, Thomas Clerk World, which includes former law clerks of Justice Thomas’s. The online discussion had been contentious. John Eastman, a former Thomas clerk and a key instigator of the lie that Trump actually won in 2020, was on the same side as Ginni Thomas, and he drew rebukes. According to the Post, Thomas eventually apologized to the group for causing internal rancor. Artemus Ward, a political scientist at Northern Illinois University and a co-author of “Sorcerers’ Apprentices,” a history of Supreme Court clerks, believes that the incident confirmed her outsized role. “Virginia Thomas has direct access to Thomas’s clerks,” Ward said. Clarence Thomas is now the Court’s senior member, having served for thirty years, and Ward estimates that there are “something like a hundred and twenty people on that Listserv.” In Ward’s view, they comprise “an élite right-wing commando movement.” Justice Thomas, he says, doesn’t post on the Listserv, but his wife “is advocating for things directly.” Ward added, “It’s unprecedented. I have never seen a Justice’s wife as involved.”

That literally NEVER HAPPENED. But they print it like it did. This is why people hate the media.

MIKE ROSEN ISN'T CONVINCED ABOUT FOLK SONGS At least their ability to stop war, and he writes about it here. See an example at the end of the blog!

ABOUT RICK SCOTT'S PLANS FOR REPUBLICAN GOVERNANCE I didn't talk about the plan released by Florida Senator Rick Scott because I was sure he was going to be told to shut up and sit down (which he was) by people like Mitch McConnell. But now there is some polling out (and Mitch LOVES good polling data) that shows a LOT of what Rick proposed is popular with voters. The unpopular part is that EVERYONE should have to pay SOMETHING in income taxes. I don't care if it's a dollar, everyone should have skin in the game, but I am barely in the majority on that. What is popular?

There is a lot there to run on and more importantly many of these things run perfectly counter to so much of what Democrats are trying to push right now. Mitch needs to shut up and sit down.

THE INTERNATIONAL CAT FEDERATION HAS BANNED RUSSIAN CATS And THIS is SERIOUS. No Ruskie cats will be allowed to compete because of Putin's actions. Seems there's a real cat fight brewing now.

ALLEGED CHRISTIAN PUTIN REBUKED BY RUSSIAN ORTHODOX MINISTERS This is kind of a big deal I think. At least 176 clerics from the Russian Orthodox church have called for the end of the hostilities in Ukraine. Though the letter was not signed by the grand poobah of the church, this is very significant because the church usually rubber stamps whatever Putin wants them to rubber stamp. I sure hope that vapid Republican woman pays attention to how little Putin shares her "Christian values".

NEW TEXAS VOTER LAW REALLY BAD AT SUPPRESSING THE VOTE Because the midterm primary that happened Tuesday say HIGHER voter turnout with fewer problems than in the last mid term primary. Once again, the Democrat predictions of gloom and doom are utterly false and proven to be lies, so expect the national media to never mention the Texas voter bill again.

COLORADANS IN THE WINTER

IF BEING ANNOYING WAS A JOB This made me laugh pretty hard.

DATE NIGHT IS A WHOLE LOT MORE EXPENSIVE THESE DAYS Especially when you factor in the rising cost of babysitting. Babysitters are getting 20 bucks and hour average with the coastal cities seeing even higher rates. We were very lucky we had great help when Q was little, but these kinds of costs would mean no date nights for us. However, if you have a teen now is the time to get some training and do some sitting!

WILL THE TSA END THE HATED MASK MANDATE? I am watching this VERY carefully because the current mask mandate is set to expire on March 18th. The flight attendant unions want it to stay for some godforsaken reason (they say it's because little children can't get the vaccine yet) but the world has turned against masking so I'm hoping against hope this will go away. Time magazine says regardless of what the TSA says, you should mask up forever anyway.

BIDEN'S GAS RELEASE IS TOO LITTLE...SAYS NBC NEWS? Journalism happened at NBC News when Lester Holt rightly pointed out that the plan to release oil from the Strategic Reserves is nothing more than a "drop in the bucket" of American energy needs. Read it here.

THE BABYLON BEE REPORTS ON WHAT BIDEN PROMISED MORE MONEY FOR And you will be pleased to know that "Smergberd, Rustamufferns, and Blabtrussels" will be funded going forward.

DEMS DON'T DESERVE CREDIT FOR ADOPTING REPUBLICAN COVID POLICIES NOW Now that the polling data is back and covid is unpopular and the draconian measures put in place even less popular, Dems all over the country are promoting the same sort of policies. This column rightly argues that they don't deserve love for loosening their grip because the science hasn't changed all that much.
