Mandy's Wed Blog: Soda Nannies Take Action in Golden, and Book of Questions

THE BOOK OF QUESTIONS AT 2 TODAY And I can't wait to see how horrible of a person I am today. Buy the book here.

LATE ADDITION: CLIFF MAY ON THE REAL APARTHEID IN ISRAEL He's got a great column on the total hypocrisy of Amnesty International claiming that Israel engages in apartheid when the reality is the Palestinian Authority is the one punishing citizens BY DEATH for selling land to a Jew. Cliff joins us at 1 to discuss.

GOLDEN THINKS PARENTS ARE TOO DUMB TO ORDER FOR THEIR KIDS And I get the intent behind this new law that orders restaurants to offer milk or water as the default beverage on a kids meal, but I truly hate nanny stuff like this. Parents, if you want your kids to make healthier choices it's easy. Government, get out of the way. Golden joins Longmont and Lafayette on June 1st as the place where they have to dictate what restaurants offer because someone's kid is too fat. I wonder what this does to kid meal pricing, as milk is more expensive than soda and water is less expensive than soda. I'm sure the restaurants who are responsible for childhood obesity will figure it out. That was sarcasm by the way.

GREAT COLUMN ON THE EQUITY POLICY KERFUFFLE IN DOUGCO Ari Armstrong lays out the "controversial" DougCo Equity policy nicely and then lays out what the "controversial" resolution passed by the school board actually says and does and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a problem with his logic. He shares my view in this paragraph beautifully:

The main thing I object to is that the document equates a person’s “identity” to “one’s race, color, ancestry, creed, sex, sexual orientation,” etcetera, plus “one’s lived experiences and self-expression in any given environment.” To me, your identity has little to do with the accidents of your birth and mostly to do with your ideas, actions, and chosen values. The equity document seems to basically want to define people by their race and other like characteristics. At least the line about “self-expression” makes some room for individualism. Another issue is that “diversity” here pertains to diversity of race and the like and omits diversity of thought.

He goes on to share what is in the resolution, which did NOT replace or repeal the equity policy in any way shape or form, did do. This from the column:

The resolution rejects “any policy or practice that wrongfully prioritizes group identity over individual beliefs, actions, and experiences.” It explicitly endorses equality of opportunity. The resolution also supports an environment in which students and families “can freely express views and opinions that may be counter to others’ views and opinions and are free from superficial attempts to ascribe group identity characteristics to his or her beliefs.” I think all of that is perfectly reasonable, so long as people don’t express “opinions” in school in a way that demeans other students.
Notably, the resolution explicitly says that, “for example, the horrors of race-based slavery and segregation . . . has been and will continue to be a part of every child’s education in the Douglas County School District.” So there doesn’t seem to be any attempt to strip uncomfortable facts from history; quite the opposite.

So what's the problem?

THIS IS THE BEST SUPER BOWL STORY OF THE WEEK And it's about three friends who are the last members of the "Never Miss a Super Bowl Club" which is exactly what it sounds like. These gents have been to all 55 Super Bowls but two have said this will be their last as "old man age" is catching up to all of them. What a great story of ongoing friendship created by football.

THE FOUR DAY WORKWEEK IS GAINING STEAM! I LOVE this idea so much. In an age when productivity is higher than it's ever been, why do we need to keep the five day workweek? Why not work four days and take three off? WHY NOT??? Forbes says the movement is gaining momentum with a group of companies poised to take part in a pilot project to test it out. One of the companies is IPR Denver and if anyone can connect me with someone there I'd love to talk to them about it.

THE GOVERNOR PROVES AGAIN HE IS NOT A FRIEND TO AG This time by appointing a wolf re introduction advocate who was NOT on the short list given to him by the Dept of Agriculture who gave the Governor a list of three recommendations, none of whom made the Governor's list. We know the First Gentlemen is a HUGE animal rights activist and vegan so this is not very surprising, though you would think the Governor would have at least taken a hot minute since his last animal rights activist disastrous appointment just had to resign. Read more here. Dr. Becky Niemiec will now be the Director of the Bureau of Animal Protection for Colorado. Why is she concerning? She's linked to organizations like Mercy for Animals, which has the goal of ending factory farming for animals and creating a "booming plant-based economy" instead. Great.

HAS ANYONE CHECKED ON TAY TAY? Because Denver Public Schools is dropping it's mask mandate and he SWORE he would introduce a policy to force it into the dress code. Anyone? Is he alright?

THIS IS WHY I DON'T WANT TEACHERS UNIONS IN MY DISTRICT IN ONE QUICK VIDEO Masking in schools is not necessary, does nothing and if you want proof, look at the outbreak numbers for DougCo, Adams and Arapahoe and see how similar they all look in terms of the disease curve. But don't let that get in the way of continued face diapers for 2 year olds if you're the teachers union. First off I want to make sure that you understand that the SAME PEOPLE who cooked up the teacher sickout are part of the SAME UNION that Randi Weingarten heads at the national level. Here's what Ms. Weingarten had to say about masking in schools.

To be clear, she's saying 80% of small children have to be vaccinated, even though the chances of children having any issue from Covid if they get it. Does this mean she wants a vaccine mandate? I sure hope so because that will further erode trust in the teachers union. Keep up the great work, Randi!

EVEN THE ATLANTIC KNOWS COVID IS OVER And this column argues that all covid restrictions should be lifted. Welcome to the party, friend.

IF YOU'RE NOT FOLLOWING THIS TRUCKER THING IN CANADA YOU REALLY SHOULD BE So it started with a bunch of truck drivers being done with the completely draconian restrictions STILL in place in Canada, especially the mandate that all truckers be vaccinated or be forced to quarantine for two weeks when they returned from the US. So they drove to Ottawa to express their displeasure. First Prime Minister dismissed the truckers with this:

“The small fringe minority of people who are on their way to Ottawa who are holding unacceptable views that they are expressing do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other, who know that following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values, as a country.”

Only then the trucks got to Ottawa and have absolutely crippled the city, even shutting down the bridge to Detroit yesterday as the protest continues. Police swooped down and stole the fuel that was being stored in a parking lot for the truckers and quickly made bringing the truckers fuel illegal so this happened. GO CANADA!!

THIS MAN MAKES THE BEST CASE FOR SCHOOL CHOICE I'VE HEARD IN A WHILE And he's black, so he can't be racist, right?

IT'S NATIONAL PIZZA DAY AND FOX 31 HAS A LIST OF THE BEST They gathered up the Google Reviews and created a handy list of the best pizza joints in Colorado according to our fellow citizens. Find them here and try them all!

DEFUND THE POLICE CONGRESS MEMBERS SPENT BIG ON PRIVATE SECURITY And this is where the term "luxury beliefs" comes from. These members of Congress, one of whom spent over $250,000 on private security can afford to yell about defunding the police because they can afford their own private security. Of course they did and can. Of course.

THIS IS THE COLUMN ON LUXURY BELIEFS I KEEP REFERENCING And it's worth a read and here's a snippet:

Luxury beliefs are those that act as status symbols for the elite. In the past, the elites showed their wealth and status by having luxury goods. However, since it’s much easier to obtain luxury items today, the elites now have to display their status by having a set of “luxury beliefs.”
For example, in the 60s, the elite advocated for polygamy as they viewed monogamy was outdated. This belief had a lot of serious second-order consequences as seen from 1960-2005, when the number of working class children who grew up in a two-parent household fell from 95% to 30%. Meanwhile, 95% of children from the affluent class grew up in two-parent households in both 1960 and 2005. In this case, the luxury belief of polygamy harmed only the working class, as growing up in a two-parent family is essential to having a nurturing and stable childhood.

Read the rest here, as it explains why rich, white liberals want to blow up the very structures they benefited from.

THE 1619 PROJECT FOUNDER ISSUES STUPID ATTACKS ON THOSE WHO QUESTION HER And this story is brilliantly done to show what the strategy from Nikole Hannah Jones is when anyone criticizes her poorly researched and supported 1619 Project. She uses ad hominen attacks rather than showing critics where they are wrong. Why? Because she can't show them where they are wrong.

THIS OLD MAN IS A SNAKE NINJA
