FATHER MIKE TESS IS ON TODAY TO TALK CIVILITY AND KINDNESS I had a revelation yesterday while reading an article about something totally unrelated to the DougCo School Board. My position toward those who I believed were stymieing the Board I elected in such a way that it was easy for me to demonize them as not just wrong but awful. This isn't helpful at ALL. My favorite Episcopal priest is on to talk about kindness and civility today and perhaps I can get back some of my humanity. He's on at 2.
THE BLACK LIVES MATTER GRIFT IS COMING TO A HEAD And I'm talking about the National Organization. They have taken in MILLIONS of dollars, but now the people in charge have bought a bunch of houses and skipped out and no one is in charge. Now local chapters want to know where the money has gone and there is literally NO ONE there to answer the questions. I've got Mike Gonzalez, Heritage senior fellow on to discuss it.
THERE IS A SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT IN DOUGCO And answers should be clear about what happened and how things went down tonight. Of course there is an issue with the meeting not being noticed 24 hours in advance and honestly, I would not start the meeting until exactly 6:14pm as that is EXACTLY 24 hours from when the notice went out. The union is going to try and turn ANY mistake into an example of corruption so follow EVERY rule to the T to avoid that. This statement from the Board President is SPOT ON:
There was an election last November that clearly showed that parents were dissatisfied with the current direction of the school district and the negative impact it has had on our children’s education. For example, 58% of Douglas County students in grades three through six are not proficient in math. Over and over again, and throughout the community, I have heard that parents want change. Tomorrow night, the DCSD Board will have a public discussion about the direction of the school district and how to get our children back on track so they are ready to solve the tough challenges they will face throughout their lives.
I believe our school district must prioritize our students in every decision. However, it appears as though some organizations view Douglas County as some sort of a conquest – a way to ‘take back power’, according to the union. That labor union held our kids hostage by using its power to close our schools, robbing our kids of another day of their education. Today’s cancellation of classes, after all the school that our kids have missed due to COVID and weather, was not an example of putting our kids first, rather it was a classic union tactic. In addition, I want to reassure our teachers and staff that I am committed to supporting all of you.
It also is important to note, because of inaccuracies reported in the media, that at no time, did I or any of the majority board members, violate any laws related to the discussion of any personnel matter. I will conduct tomorrow’s meeting with the grace and respect that any employer-employee conversation should warrant. The union may have other ideas, but I am committed to restoring peace and unity to our school district with a renewed focus on educating our children.
Mike Peterson nailed it. The meeting can be watched online, and my prediction is the union will flood the audience with people who yell and scream and carry on to disrupt the proceedings because that's what they do.

MAYOR MICHAEL HANCOCK IS TRYING TO DO SOMETHING TO FIX OUR CRIME PROBLEM And though he is promoting some of the very solutions that I think we need like alternative centers where the chronically homeless can be offered some help and treatment rather than jail, I'm not sure this is going to work. When he says "we can't arrest our way out of this" he is, in part, wrong. Part of what needs to happen is that we must change our reputation as a Wonderland for homeless addicts and that's going to mean arresting a crap ton of people for a while.
