PRESIDENT UNITY RIPS OPEN OLD WOUNDS AND POURS SALT IN THEM January 6th has become the Confederacy for the Democrats. Much like some Southerners continue to romanticize the treasonous Confederate movement in some misguided sense of melancholy, so to does the Democratic party about January 6th. On a day where it would have been helpful to talk about bringing everyone together our loser of a President decided to attack Donald Trump in an effort to shore up the Democrats chances of not getting absolutely shellacked in the mid-term elections. His speech was solely designed to stoke political fires and therefore was beneath the dignity of the office, but I've come to expect this crap from every President now since they all do it.

BUT IF YOU ARE DEFENDING THOSE WHO STORMED THE CAPITOL I'VE GOT NOTHING FOR YOU What happened last year was nothing short of a stain on our Nation's history. A small group of bad actors, using what they believed was permission from Trump (who did NOTHING that day to dispel that notion) stormed the Capitol, attacked the police defending it, acted like juvenile delinquents once they got into the Capitol by defacing and destroying our shared space there and tried to terrorize the people that were working there. Do I think Trump thought this would happen? No. Do I think he enjoyed it when it did? Yes. Do I think a real leader would have done more to stop it? Absolutely. And if there are any people who still believe these people were some sort of patriots trying to save the country by destroying the very norms that we have relied on since the founding I can't help you. And I don't want to hear it every again. Karl Rove wrote a column about it in the Wall Street Journal, which is paywalled, but just read this:

So, on this anniversary, here’s a simple thought experiment: What if the other side had done it? What if in early January 2017, Democrats similarly attired and armed had stormed the Capitol and attempted to keep Congress from receiving the Electoral College results for the 2016 presidential election?
What if Democrats claimed that Donald Trump’s razor-thin victories in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin resulted from extensive voter fraud and should be rejected, despite having failed to establish in a single court that extensive fraud had actually occurred?
What if some of these Democrats breached the Capitol defenses and threatened violence against the Republican speaker, Paul Ryan, and Republican Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell ?
What if they insisted that in his role as Senate president then-Vice Presiden tJoe Biden had sole authority to seat Hillary Clinton’s electors from any contested states and thereby hand her the presidency?
If this happened, would some of my fellow Republicans have accepted it as merely a protest? Would they have called patriots those charged with violent acts against our country, its laws and Constitution? Would they have accepted such extralegal means to change the outcome of a presidential election?
No they would not. I’m certain of that.

The Wall Street Journal did an excellent editorial condemning both sides for the way they have behaved since last January and they are spot on, as usual.

LIBERALS ARE TURNING AGAINST UNION LEAD SCHOOL CLOSURES And I don't care where they stand on other issues, they are my brothers and sisters on this one. HotAir.com gathered up some really interesting quotes by some pretty prominent liberals as the Chicago teachers unions are voting to strike rather than return to the classroom during this rather harmless Omicron surge. Remember, these were the people given priority for vaccines so we don't have to do this again. And now they want to pack it in rather than do their jobs. They do NOT care about children. AT ALL. This as some Chicago high schools reported that NEARLY HALF of students simply didn't show up for remote learning.

ANOTHER DEMOCRAT WHO LOVES MASKS GOES TO MASKLESS FLORIDA FOR VACATION And this time it's the obnoxious Eric Swalwell from masked up California. He couldn't have gone to the beach in his home state of California? And he's got an INFANT WITH HIM, totally unmasked. HE'S GOING TO KILL HIS BABY, FOR GOD'S SAKE. That was sarcasm.

JUST IN TIME FOR OMICRON WE'RE FIRING MORE HEALTH CARE WORKERS For not being vaccinated. Yes, I know that these are the same people who have been working with covid patients THE ENTIRE TIME but by gosh they won't submit to the government's wishes and must be fired. Read more here.

BETTY WHITE AND JOAN RIVERS ROAST EACH OTHER

WHAT WILL OUR RISING HOME VALUES MEAN FOR OUR PROPERTY TAXES? I am honestly not sure after reading this article in the Colorado Sun but we know that as home values rise, our property taxes will too. Get ready, it's coming.

THIS VIDEO IS NOT A PARODY AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT The Chicago teachers union apparently made this interpretive dance video last year. I...I...I am not sure what I just watched.

Literally me watching this video this morning.

LET'S BRING MANUFACTURING BACK TO THE US The supply chain issues and the over reliance on cheap foreign labor and shipping have laid bare our issues of self sufficiency in the US. Now some companies are exploring the concept of reshoring manufacturing, or bringing it back to the US. I love this. This could be a huge turning point and I hope it continues.

CALIFORNIA'S INSANE COVID RESTRICTIONS COULD LOSE THEM THE SUPER BOWL And unlike MLB who made a stupid political decision on the All-Star game, this is all about keeping sportswriters and reporters happy with their gravy train trip that they get every year. Cali has too many covid restriction and if they don't look to lift them, they could move the Super Bowl to Dallas. I love this so much I could marry it. People vote with their feet.

PEOPLE ARE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR HOUSES BEING STINKY And I get this. The pandemic has us all spending so much time at home doing at home things that we are worried our homes are not ready for smell prime time. Sales of good smelling stuff are soaring. How do you keep your home smelling good? I wash my dog a lot, and we burn incense because in his soul Chuck is a little bit of a hippie.

PANDEMIC BABIES ARE DEVELOPING MORE SLOWLY And it's not just because their moms had covid while pregnant. The differences are VERY small in this very small study, but I think keeping babies shuttered without any outside stimulation has something to do with it as well. Don't panic if you're a new mom, these things can be made up as we get back to normal.

CADILLAC PUTS THE BACK SEAT IN THE FRONT SEAT IN ITS NEW CONCEPT LOVE NEST CAR They aren't calling it that overtly, but the marketing and look definitely say "let's get it on". The autonomous car replaces bucket seats with a loveseat and allows its two passengers to cuddle up and watch a big screen while the car drives itself. It's a sexy concept to be sure, but these things never get built.

ELECTRIC CARS WOULD HAVE MADE VIRGINIA'S MASSIVE TRAFFIC JAM FAR WORSE This column lays out the issues electric cars have in extreme situations like the one in Virginia. Because they lose charge more quickly in cold weather, being stranded on a highway for many hours becomes far more dangerous and far more complicated to fix because we can't take a can of electricity to recharge dead cars on the highway. HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY Even when you throw your dad under the bus.

PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG Before someone is inspired to do something like this.

WHEN ACTUAL FACTS GO AGAINST THE DOGMA, YOU LOSE And that is the entire gist of this column about a nerdy guy who was working for Reuters Thompson, the allegedly unbiased news source, when they went full woke on Black Lives Matter. Being a data guy he started pulling data to show that there was a serious disconnect between what was really happening and what Reuters was reporting. As you can imagine, it got him fired. This is worth your time.

THIS STORY ABOUT DATING APPS DO AND DON'TS MAKES ME HAPPY I'M NOT DOING THIS And some of them are so common sense that it makes me worry about these people who are doing it wrong. Read them here.
