Slow Start Hurts Avs In 3-2 Loss To Kraken

A slow start proved costly for the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night.

The Avs gave up three early goals and the Seattle Kraken went on to a 3-2 win in the Pacific Northwest.

Seattle scored all its goals in the first 14:44 of the game and jumped up 3-0. The first two goals came in the opening five minutes and 23 seconds.

Defenseman Cale Makar got the Avs on the scoreboard with his 27th goal of the season. It came at 17:37 of the first period.

After the teams went scoreless in the second period, the Avalanche got closer when forward Artturi Lehkonen put the puck past former Avs goalie Philip Grubauer with 3:20 left in the regulation.

But the Avs could not get the game tied.

Pavel Francouz got the start in net for the Avalanche. He settled down after Seattle's early goals and finished with 26 saves.

Colorado lost its second straight game, the first time that has happened since March 8 and 10.

Avs forward Nazem Kadri returned to the lineup. He had been out with an upper body injury since March 31.
