Monday night, the Washington Capitals came to Ball Arena and edged the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2, and in the process snapped the Avs nine-game winning streak.
Colorado had not lost since falling to Minnesota, 3-2 in overtime, on March 27.
Marcus Johansson scored the deciding goal at 10:46 of the third period after the Capitals had forced a turnover.
Colorado forward Artturi Lehkonen had tied the game at 2-2 when he scored at 8:13 of the third. Valeri Nichushkin scored the other Avs goal in the first period. At the time, it tied the game at one.
Washington would take a 2-1 lead by scoring the only goal of the second period. Alex Ovechkin put home a power play goal with 6:33 left.
Avs defenseman Cale Makar picked up an assist on Nichushkin's goal, giving him 83 points this year, a franchise record for a defenseman.
Colorado starts a three-game road trip against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, April 20 at 8 p.m. MDT.
