A Mountain West Conference tournament championship simply was not to be for the 23rd-ranked Colorado State Rams.
The Rams fell to the San Diego St. Aztecs, 63-58 on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
CSU forward David Roddy had 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Guard Isaiah Stevens added 21 points.
Those two combined for 43 of the Rams 58 points. Roddy and Stevens shot a combined 16-of-27 from the field. The rest of the team was 6-19.
San Diego St. got out to a 35-26 lead at halftime. While the Rams tried to get over the hump, they were never able to make the necessary run to win the game.
CSU is 25-5. San Diego St. is 23-7.
The Rams will be waiting to see where they fit into the NCAA Tournament field, which will be revealed on Sunday, March 13.
