Controlling the game pretty much throughout, the Colorado Avalanche closed out its four-game road trip with a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit.
Gabriel Landeskog got the Avs off to a quick start, scoring at 1:12 of the first period. Tyson Jost added another goal to make it 2-0 at the first intermission.
Nazem Kadri pushed the lead back to two goals when he scored his 22nd goal of the season in the second period. Valeri Nichushkin made it 4-1 in the third before Landeskog capped the scoring with an empty net goal with 39 seconds remaining.
Pavel Francouz got the start in goal and made 32 saves for the Avs.
Colorado picked up wins over Vegas, Buffalo and Detroit on the road trip, losing only to Boston.
The Avs host the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, February 25 at 7 p.m. MST.
