A tired and road-weary Colorado Avalanche squad found a way to beat the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1, and pick up two more points on Thursday night.
Mikko Rantanen scored a power play goal in the first period to get the Avs going. Keifer Sherwood picked up a goal to make it 2-0 at 3:06 in the third.
The Avalanche pulled away in the third period, getting goals from Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Devon Toews to seal the game.
Goalie Darcy Kuemper returned to the starting lineup and turned in a terrific performance. He made 40 saves.
The Avs run their winning streak to five games. They are 10-0-1 in their last 11 games and they have won 15 of their last 17 games going back to December 6.
The Avs will be back at Ball Arena in Denver to start a three-game homestand against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, January 22. Faceoff is set for 5 p.m. MST.
