The Denver Broncos could not overcome a bevy of mistakes.
The result was a 19-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Michael Badgely hit a 37-yard field goal with 41 seconds left to give the Chargers the win.
Once again, the Broncos offense proved to be inconsistent, making too many mistakes, including committing two turnovers, dropping too many passes and committing six penalties.
All of that was too much to overcome, even though the Broncos nearly did.
Drew Lock's one-yard touchdown run brought Denver within 16-13 with 6:32 remaining in the game.
Soon after, Brandon McManus drilled a 52-yard field goal to tie the game at 16 at the 2:42 mark.
But the Chargers drove right back down the field and got Badgely's field goal to take the lead with under a minute to go.
After Daesean Hamilton caught a 24-yard pass at the Broncos 49 yard line and Lock spiked the ball to stop the clock with one second left, Broncos head coach Vic Fangio decided against giving McManus a shot at a game-tying 69-yard field goal.
Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams, in the game on defense for the final play, intercepted Lock's Hail Mary pass at the goal line to seal the win.
Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy had a tough game, dropping five passes, including a would-be touchdown.
