Denver Broncos President of Football Operations/GM John Elway.
In the end, the Denver Broncos waited.
And it paid off.
Thursday, the Broncos selected wide receiver Jerry Jeudy in the first round of the NFL Draft, 15th overall.
The Broncos had Jeudy as the top-rated wide receiver in the draft. And they were able to get him without having to move up.
"We talked to certain teams. We discussed whether it was worth going up," Elway said after the first round. "We decided we were going to sit where we were. We felt like we were going to get a very good football player at 15. A wide receiver was our number one goal."
And they didn't hesitate to draft Jeudy when he was available.
"Jerry was the number one guy on our board," Elway said. "[Wide receiver] CeeDee [Lamb] was number two. For us to be staring at 15 and look at the top need on our board and we have our top two guys that are still on our board, we felt good about the opportunity there."
"We thought it was 50-50 whether he [Jeudy] would get there [15th] or not. We were surprised both of them got there, CeeDee as well as Jerry."
Jeudy will be wearing orange and blue and that's exactly what Elway hoped would happen.
"It's nice to be able to go to sleep tonight knowing we got the receiver we coveted," Elway said. "He was our guy from the get-go."
The Broncos have one second round pick and three more in the third round on Friday.
Coverage begins Friday at 5 p.m. MDT on KOA NewsRadio 850 AM and 94.1 FM and everywhere on the iHeart Radio app. Coverage is a service of AARP.
