The Vance Joseph era has ended for the Denver Broncos.
According to multiple reports, the Broncos fired Joseph Monday morning after two seasons on the job.
His teams compiled a record of 11-21.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Broncos have requested permission to talk with Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores about the opening.
The Broncos closed out the regular season on with a 23-9 loss on Sunday. After that game, Joseph told KOA NewsRadio Voice of the Broncos Dave Logan he expected to be back for a third season as coach.
"I do expect to be back," Joseph said. "Coaches get fired when they lose the culture and guys stop playing. That hasn't happened with our football team."
"I know I work for the Broncos and we have high expectations. We won five games the first year and six games the second year. That's not good enough. This is a great staff and we have good, young players. I think we're building something."
"We have to go back to the drawing board and figure out exactly where we are and move forward. I think we've done enough work here this year to come back the third year to try to finish it and make it right," Joseph said.
