It didn't take long for Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon to bounce back.
One night after committing an crucial error that helped open the door to the Houston Astros' six-run tenth inning, Blackmon blasted a walk-off, solo home run that gave the Rockies a 3-2 win over the defending World Series champion.
It was Blackmon's first career walk-off home run.
Blackmon's home run capped a come-from-behind effort by the Rockies, who tied the game 2-2 in the seventh inning when Raimel Tapia tagged and scored on Nolan Arenado's foul pop out. Astros third baseman J.D. Davis caught the ball as he was falling over the fence in front of the dugout. His throw home was off-line.
That set the stage for Blackmon's heroics two innings later. He sent Colin McHugh's 3-1 pitch over the center field wall for the dramatic win.
Rockies starter Jon Gray threw seven marvelous innings, holding the Astros to two runs (one earned) on only one hit. Gray walked two men and struck out six.
Adam Ottavino and Wade Davis each pitch a hitless inning.
The Rockies held the Astros to one hit in the game, Jose Altuve's RBI double in the fourth inning.
The Rockies split the two-game series with the Astros and after Thursday's off day will welcome another quality A.L. West team to Coors Field.
The Oakland A's will be for a three-game series. Coverage of Friday's opener starts at 6 p.m. MDT on KOA NewsRadio 850 AM and 94.1 FM.
