CU Upsets Duke In OT, 61-53, To Advance To Sweet 16

Incredibly and improbably, the Colorado Buffaloes got it done.

As a result, they are going to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003.

Monday night, the 6th-seeded Buffs toppled third-seeded Duke, 61-53 in overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, on the Blue Devils home court in Durham, North Carolina.

Colorado raced out to a 15-2 lead to start the game but Duke fought its way back and eventually tied the game 39-39 in the third quarter. By the end of that quarter, the Blue Devils had outscored CU 17-7 advantage and led by four points.

But the Buffs stayed in the game. They tied the game on Jaylyn Sherrod's basket with 34 seconds left. Duke's Shayeanne Day-Wilson missed a three-pointer with six seconds left and it was off to overtime.

And off to a dominating five minutes for the Buffs. They outscored the Blue Devils 11-3 in OT. The Buffs hit big shots inside, hit the boards and made plays.

As a result, they are going to face second-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes in the regional semifinals in Seattle on Friday, March 24. Coverage will start at 5 p.m. MDT on KOA 850 AM and 94.1 FM.
