CU Opens NCAA Tournament With 82-60 Win Over Middle Tennessee St.

Some people thought the Colorado women's basketball team was poised to be upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Those people were wrong.

The Buffs blazed out of the gate and raced past the Middle Tennessee St. Blue Raiders, 82-60, in the first round in Durham, North Carolina on Saturday night. It was the Buffs first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2003.

CU got out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter and by halftime the Buffs were up 42-28.

Frida Formann scored a team-high 21 points and was 5-of-8 from three-point range. Her five triples were one off the school record for most in an NCAA Tournament game. CU was 13-of-27 (48.1%) from long distance.

Jaylyn Sherrod added 13 points and eight assists for the Buffs. Arronette Vonleh added eight points.

The 6th-seeded Buffs move on to play the third-seeded Duke Blue Devils on Monday, March 20. Coverage will start at 6:30 p.m. MDT on 830 KHOW.
