The Colorado Buffaloes battled. They fought.
But in the end, they came up short in an 84-74 loss to the Creighton Bluejays in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Buffs, seeded seventh in the Greensboro Regional, and the Bluejays, the 10 seed, were close in three of the four quarters.
In fact, Colorado got out of the gate quickly, taking early 7-0 and 11-2 leads.
The difference, however, turned out to be the second quarter, in which Creighton outscored CU, 19-10. That allowed Creighton to take a 36-31 lead at halftime.
Down 31-27 with 2:46 left before halftime, the Bluejays closed the quarter on a 9-0 run.
A 7-0 Creighton run in the third quarter broke a 41-41 tie and Creighton was in control again.
The Buffs got within 63-61 with on Quay Miller's two free throws with 6:46 to go. But Creighton responded with a 7-0 run and the lead was nine points with 4:05 remaining.
Guard Jaylyn Sherrod led CU with a career-high 27 points on 11-15 shooting. She added five rebounds and five assists. Forward Mya Hollingshed had 15 points and five rebounds.
CU finishes the season 22-9. Creighton advances with a 21-9 record.
