Brewers Join Benefit for California Fire Relief

More than one-thousand breweries across the country are making a beer for Butte County wildfire relief in California.  Dozens of Colorado breweries are joining the cause led by California's Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.

After surviving a scare from the Camp Fire, Sierra Nevada Founder Ken Grossman made a call for action.

"I’m sending a letter to brewers across the country, inviting them to join us in this effort.  We are working with malt, hop and yeast suppliers to provide raw ingredient donations to all participating breweries and are asking those breweries to donate 100 percent of their sales to the fund, as well."

More than one thousand breweries have committed to joining the fund raising effort.

The decision to help was an easy one for Jordan Fink, Owner and Brewer at Downtown Denver's Woods Boss Brewing Company.

"Our grain supplier BSG is going to be donating the grain for it, our yeast supplier Inland Island Yeast is going to be donating the yeast.  We might get some donated hops but if not, we'll cover the cost of the hops," Fink said.  "I used to be a wildland firefighter and I'm still a volunteer firefighter so this is obviously an issue that's close to the vest."

With so many breweries taking part, the windfall could be significant.

"We anticipate being able to donate somewhere in the range of two or three thousand dollars," Fink said.

Resilience will be available on store shelves and in tap rooms beginning in mid-December.
