Silverthorne's Red Gerard got the Winter Olympics off to a rousing start on Saturday in PyeongChang, South Korea.
The 17-year-old won the first gold medal of the Games for the United States when he came back to capture snowboard slopestyle.
Gerard was in last place heading into his final run. He scored 87.16 in his third and final run and watched the other competitors fall short.
