Whole Foods Market celebrated the grand opening of its lone downtown Denver store Wednesday morning. The "destination" location at Wewatta and 17th street aims to cater to a diverse group of shoppers, according to Union Station Store Team Manager Michael Mead.
"This store was built to provide an outstanding service for the entire community," Mead said. "It's not just for the folks that live in this area, but for folks that are going to be coming in visiting, and for commuters."
"It's definitely going to help shoppers getting on the light rail going home," a resident said. "Or people headed to the airport. 'I'll grab something and eat it on the train.' I think it's really going to be more than just local neighborhood residents stopping in."
The store also features sit-down dining options such as Tel Aviv Street Food, Kikka Sushi and Birdcall Fried Chicken. More than 20 Colorado craft beers are on tap.
Underground parking is accessible from Wewatta Street between 17th and 18th. Customers can park for free for up to two hours
