And when they return, the Denver Pioneers men's lacrosse team hopes to be accompanied by the 2017 national championship trophy.
Wednesday, May 24, the Pioneers left for Foxboro, Massachusetts to play in the national semifinals. The 5th-seeded Pioneers will battle #1 seed Maryland in the Final Four on Saturday, May 27 at Gillette Stadium. The winner will take on the Ohio St.-Towson winner in Monday's championship game.
The Pioneers advanced to Championship Weekend with a resounding 16-4 win over Notre Dame in the quarterfinals. DU defeated Maryland 10-5 in the 2015 title game.

Denver Places Six on USILA All-America Teams
Faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste becomes three-time First Team All-American
PERRY, N.Y. – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team placed six players across the three USILA All-America Teams and the Honorable Mention selections, headlined by the third First Team All-America honor for junior Tewaaraton Finalist Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.), the USILA released on Wednesday.
Fellow captains Connor Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Christian Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) earned second team nods from the coaches’ association. Cannizzaro earned his third postseason recognition from the USILA after two first-team selections in his first two years with the Pioneers. Burgdorf received his fourth All-America honor, earning first team honors in his junior campaign, second team in 2015 and honorable mention honors in his rookie season.
Freshman attackman Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario), sophomore midfielder Colton Jackson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and senior first-line midfielder Tyler Pace (Coquitlam, B.C.) all earned Honorable Mention selections from the USILA on Wednesday. Pace received the second USILA award of his career, while Walker and Jackson both were given All-American status for the first time as Pioneers.
