Five people now have new homes thanks to students from the construction engineering class at the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus.
The class is partnering with the Colorado Village Collaborative; an organization that focuses on housing people experiencing homelessness in tiny home communities.
Students broke ground on the project in October and were involved in every stage of the construction from planning to final touches, including inspections from the city.
"These kids are used to getting Bs and Cs and Ds in grades in classes, when it comes to inspections it's pass or fail and so it's a real life learning project," said Mike Degitis, construction pathway teacher at the campus.
The partnership between the class and organization started in 2019 and has resulted in 16 homes so far. More could come in the future.
"Our opinion is that homelessness isn't going anywhere fast especially downtown, so as long as we can continue to support them and do this project year after year I think we will," Degitis said.
